Explain Your Username

When I signed up on Dotmusic earlier this millenium (right after the Forever fiasco), the name I picked was Ivan_Spice_boy_no_1. :)

Then after months of harrassement by cunts (several of them still alive and posted above) there was a huge Spice exodus/migration to Denden where I changed my name to Ivanhoe.

Fast forward to 2004 I was into Tori Amos and loved the song and title Raspberry Swirl and thought it was the perfect name for a cutie of the evening so I signed up with it on Moopy.
 
I meant trolling and spamming and vicious bullying of some poor Spice teens. (Not me personally)
 
I was very into Lana Del Rey when I signed up, and a bunch of reviews and interviews led with a description of her as the 'Gangster Nancy Sinatra'. I think she's since denied ever calling herself that.

I swapped out Sinatra to reference another iconic Nancy.
 
Mine comes from the lyric of a Linda Bengtzing song - she's a Swedish singer who has tried and failed to represent Sweden at Eurovision about 24 times. Incidentally the song is called 'Alla Flickor'. This is pure coincidence. Kalabalik is a Swedish word, which means havoc or uproar, and the -en means 'the' in Swedish. I thought that was quite apt for Moopy circa 2012.

Back in my early days of the internet I was a proper geek who spent all my time on Resident Evil message boards. At the time there was a complete nutjob who used to sign up constantly under various names and troll and cause havoc and she eventually became quite notorious amongst the online RE community before one day just vanishing.

One of her user names was Jivafox which I always liked and just stole. :disco:

I knew the reference, but I had no idea about the translation. Every day is a school day.

The word is actually of Turkish origin, where it means 'crowded' butI have no idea how it came to be in the Swedish language, I don't think it's in Danish or Norwegian though, which is unusual, but it's also in Finnish and Romanian. Oh and yes, I am a language geek, if you can't tell.

Originally I was lastsilvercat on Dot. I didn't up what to enter as a username so I just put three things together: I love cats, I love silver but I can't remember why I chose "last",
Dot died and somehow I came across Moopy and switched to Pipo who was some known clown from where I live who had his own TV show for kids and also released a coulpe of albums (as cassettes).

Kala told me he was going to register with an "Alla Flickor" word, so I travelled in time to register myself first with the title song and ruin his life. Mission accomplished. Shorten later for legal reasons.

K followed by a, o,u and å (the hard vowels) is pronounced as in koala

K followed by e, i, y, ä and ö (the soft vowels) is pronounced as in sheep.

However as Kalabaliken is a loan word the usual rules don’t apply anyway.

This is called the TJ sound and can also be found in words with ‘tj’ or ‘kj’

There is also the SJ sound which sounds a bit like a very breathy wider ‘wh’ and there’s about 20 ways to spell that.

I chose my name because I found myself describing a lot of stuff around me as "kinda cool".

Kinda like Paris' "That's hot" :zombie: :disco:

Similar beginnings except I made the right choice right away.

Beirut 2001, a 16 year old DC witnesses a live discussion in an msn chatroom about which is better, a metal carnival or a dark carnival (I think. This part is a bit blurry). Around that time I found Dotmusic while looking for the UK charts and probably decided to join when I saw there was a Spice forum, under the name spice karnival :eyes: inspired by the msn chatroom discussion.

After being deservedly bullied by the guys from Dotlite, it became quickly apparent to me that the Spice forum was full of losers while all the cool kids hung out at Dotlite so I decided to move over there while rebranding myself to Dark Carnival to fit in with a cooler audience :)

The name means obviously nothing to me, but having been called that for over 18 years now, it has kind of stuck with me.
