569 deaths and 4244 new cases in the UK today.

Wonder if we're heading for further lockdown at this rate.

Oh, here we GO...

It IS bullshit and he is just going to hide until the numbers start to come down.

I'm not sure how much more they could lock us down at this point unless and until the supermarkets can meet delivery demand

Reporting from a gym in a central location here; it’s packed and there at least a hanful of 60-70+ :argh:

Oh do stay the fuck indoors you SILLY SILLY CUNT

Take it from your Auntie Glad: there’s no cock in heaven or hell. Much less FISTING I mean dear God perish the thought. In fact the mere mention of it has left me all a-quiver. Pass me my port and lemon and a Player’s No 6 would you Larry

That’s no real difference to yesterday, is it? Which wouldn’t suggest it’s a DISASTER?
Exactly. This is actually 'good' news - if the trend continues to plateau over the next few days that is (which is probably unlikely but let's keep hoping.)

I just saw in the news hundreds of deaths in retirement homes in Sweden, with 50 deaths just in one of them. We saw this coming, how sad. :(

Malawi got their first case today which means down to 18 virus-free countries now (although clearly North Korea is bullshit)

Aren't those who didn't report any case yet tiny islands and very poor countries? It says it all.

Pretty much.

An insane 1355 reported deaths in France today. Up from 509 yesterday, but including 884 from nursing homes so far (previous death counts only included hospital deaths).

Yes, hospital deaths are around 470, just when we're supposed to start seeing the effects of lockdown that started 17 days ago. Really hoping we've reached a plateau here.

an acquaintance of ours has died. I knew it couldn't be avoided affecting you in second or third degree but it still feels so odd

they're planning on extending the "lockdown" until the 13th of may here. also a friend in the know told me 350 thousand immigrants have returned over the last couple of weeks mostly from spain, italy, germany, the uk, austria and greece.

meanwhile apparently only under 100 small businesses have applied for the government aid plan which has been slammed as rubbish.

i honestly fear riots if this course of action continues.

It’s not looking good for EU solidarity today. France has confiscated millions of masks that were on their way, through France, to Sweden, which has resulted in heated discussions between the two. :sweden::france:

I thought Sweden was doing just fine, what do you need masks for :)

More like, why would you need masks if you’re in quarantine?

it feels like the eu is crumbling under the pressure. it has shown itself to be pretty useless so far.
is anyone following more closely? the last things i skimmed suggested lots of quarreling happening and failure to take any meaningful co-ordinated action.

and hungary slipping deeper into authoritarian territory...

13 countries now have more cases than south korea (not counting china). either they were really good at containing it or everyone else is really bad.

But health is not part of the EU’s missions. Those who are saying the EU isn’t doing much are the same that usually condemn the EU’s "dictatorship"

i am not one of those people and i am saying it, i don't accept that generalisation.

health may not be amongst the union priorities but this crisis has already gone way beyond that and the union has proven to be pretty useless in reacting. i'd love for this pandemic to bridge countries closer but a rich/poor or north/south or west/east rift seems more likely at this point.
