I’d compare her “Watcha packing” clip with Brita, who was trying to pass herself off as fucking Mickey Mouse :D *wide eyed and wide mouthed*

I guess the last two pages of “debate” come back to the same point we all knew anyway - some viewers don’t like nice queens.

I didn't love it either but I'm also kinda pleased they tried something new. If there's one thing that RuPaul really is, it's repetitive, so trying the odd change-up is a good thing.
 
I just watched the lip sync again

I don’t know why but I’m not really particularly excited by either of them :D

Widow was ... well can we talk about “embodying the soul” of the song? That IS just a code for something else isn’t it?
 
Crystal's Madge I'm hoping was in tribute to that iconic Wheels on the Bus moment. That's what I was getting from it anyway.

That's a really cynical way of looking at it. I'm not sure ALL fat, black drag queens would have been able to sell it like she did. But thanks for the shady subtle racism...

i shouldn’t have said anything probably, but to be clear, Widow did better, and it was certainly more in her wheelhouse as a Chaka Stan. I just saw how people can’t seem to express why they thought it was a better fit with her without saying stuff like that! Tbh I think that does a disservice to Widow.

just watched Miz Cracker compare it to Monet vs Dusty too, I mean...

I think it's great that she's nice. I think she handled herself amazingly well in the end despite the producer's best efforts to incite a meltdown.

I just don't think she was all that exciting on the show.

And I don't think embodying the song is a lazy compliment. Would anyone bat an eyelid if someone said Jujubee embodied Black Velvet? (Which she did.)

Widow could have done cartwheels and splits too, we saw that on episode one. I think it's unfair to say that she only did better on account of it being Chaka. She understood the song and gave a better performance irrespective of who the original singer was.
 
I think this conversation is forgetting just how PRODUCED this show is. Regardless of who else was in the bottom, it's quite likely that the people who make the show threw Widow into this lipsync because they knew she would turn it out.

Widow EMBODYING the song or whatever is exactly what the producers knew would happen and wanted. Some of the lipsyncs in this show are absolutely a stitch-up for a particular queen, "Natural Woman" from season four being the most obvious example.

PERHAPS the producers are racist too (it honestly wouldn't surprise me) but Widow did also mention several times this episode how much of a CHAKA STAN she is.

It also helped that Widow was by far the weakest this week. The obvious "production" was not putting Gigi in the bottom when, really, she deserved to be there.
 
There have been stories from some queens over the years who say that they already knew that they were leaving that week before judging even happened - I think some of them said they got their hotel charge bills through their hotel door before the runway even happened. I wouldn't be surprised if, despite what she says, Ru actually get the final say in who stays.
 
I imagine it is a joint effort between Ru and the producers? At this point in the season, I feel they have absolutely decided who they want their top four to be. My guess is Gigi, Sherry, Jaida and Widow.

I'd be AMAZED if Widow makes top four based on what we've seen so far. I don't think it's remotely obvious other than Gigi and (probably) Sherry.

Albeit that, absolutely, a Widow comeback story arc would be right up their street.

Embodying the spirit of the song means just that. It's not a racial comment at all. Yes, obviously a black queen might have a bit more of a perceived advantage on a soul track originally performed by a black woman, but that's by no means guaranteed. Look at how well Sasha Velour interpreted So Emotional compared to Shea Coulee...
 
Remember RuPaul pushing Manila to find a famous Asian singer to lip sync too on her podcast and hmming and haaing when Manila said she liked performing to disco songs?

Anyway, I don't think the final four is set out from an early point. I think they have an idea of who they want, but it depends on how the season goes. S10 is the most obvious example when Kameron was giving the producers nothing but they couldn't not have her there after her lip syncs against Monet and Cracker. And then Asia's butterflies happened and they had to end things with a top three lip sync too. Some things are beyond their control.

Absolutely this.

The reason that Widow had an advantage isn't because she looks like Chaka Khan or whatever else it is that Diddy is not-so-subtly implying might be because she was brought up more with that music (as she made clear in the VT and her reaction to finding out Chaka was a guest judge).

I think the ultimate miss the mark lip syncs not mentioned would have to include Saharah and her ballet nonsense, or Sonique looking like she was just doing the Vault in gymnastics over and over. There must be loads.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Widow was that bad in the challenge on purpose. She's far stronger than I think people are giving her credit for.
 
I think Diddy has a point tbh. The assumptions we have about which drag Queens are suited to which type of music are as in-built as those in the music industry itself.

Isn’t Sahara’s ballet the same lip sync with Jujubee?

thank you, I wasn’t trying to make an anti-Widow point, and of course not a racist point (:rolleyes:), just the vocabulary that is used, even to praise, has all this built-in coding that doesn’t feel like is going anywhere
