MOOPY ALBUM SYNC LISTENS #4 - ABBA - THE VISITORS - 8PM TUESDAY 28/04

Like an Angel is just so lovely. Melanie C should have covered in during the Northern Star era.

Should I Laugh is quite clever sounding. I always thought it could have been a single.

Should I Laugh Or Cry (originally b side of One Of Us) contains my favourite ABBA lyric ever:

Strange how dangerously indifferent I have grown
Cold as a stone
No more pain where there was pain before
Far away he rambles on, I feel my throat go dry
And I wonder, should I laugh or cry?

Should I Laugh or Cry. I always found something kind of Queen-ish about the structure of the verses. I can always imagine Ms Freddie giving it a synth-rock workout.

Oh God.

That one is a bit weird because the verse (which is utterly amazing) doesn’t really seem to entirely go with the (inferior) chorus

I was already feeling quite defeated today. This has been a heavy listen.

It's because lyrics like I posted are tangled up with guff about balloons and cocoons.

I Am The City remained in the vaults until 1994 for whatever reason.

I fucking LOVE I Am The City

And a rare case of the girls handing the lead to each other.

I Am The City feels like it belongs to another era a couple of albums previously...

But let's face it, all of this has just been table-setting before the best Swedish murder mystery musical on Netflix. Go off (or recite robotically), Agnetha.

I Am The City feels a little jarring compared to the others. When was it written?

I like this a lot, and it definitely feels more like what you'd expect from ABBA, but I can see why they wouldn't put it out with the album. It doesn't fit in the slightest.

Although it's actually later. The same time as The Day Before You Came, which of course was unlike anything they (or arguably anyone else) had done before.

Oh I am on The Day Before You Came before you all. It's like showing up at an orgy and coming first. And I OOP.

Buy me a ticket I'll go to the Bahamas
I need a rest from our petty little dramas
YES I REALLY DO

I Am The City's always felt slightly apart from the rest of their discography. It really is VERY new wave in a way the rest isn't quite

It was unreleased until More ABBA Gold. With B&B there is always a reason.

You Owe Me One feels much more that it fits with the rest of the album, although the production still doesn't seem as rich.

I think ‘I Am The City’ and ‘You Owe Me One’ are truly horrid. You can tell they were trying to write something sort of CHEERY AND FUN while fucking hating the sight of each other in the studio

Sometimes it’s better to solely unleash the HORROR AND ANGST

Cassandra has the same chorus vibe as Soldiers. That circular business I was on about.

You can another rely on B&B to self edit PRETTY WELL.
