Thursday carries out gruesome fish murders with a frying pan

OOH DO, I've acquired another pallet just after getting so fed up with the last one I had GETTING IN THE WAY that I SAWED IT UP INTO LITTLE PIECES in a FIT OF PIQUE

Will do! I had bought some paint to also touch up a bench and table in the garden before lockdown, but I just don't have time now :(

I woke up all excited for my last day of work this week until this thread reminded me that it is Thursday, not Friday. So upsetting.

The Salvation Army do some amazing work. I worked for them in a big hostel here for a couple of years (I'm not a Salvationist, obvs).

But there are plenty of other organisations doing very similar work with a very different ethos and core beliefs, and for that reason if I was interested in making a donation in that area, I wouldn't choose the SA.
Is it true that everything they do comes with a side order of banging on about Jesus?

Good Morning all. I went out for a run in the rain this morning and it felt rather LOVELY. I am now going to homeschool my son for a couple of hours, and then I am at a bit of a loss. The good weather was a godsend throughout this, but now it has all started to feel a bit FLAT again.

Not from my experience.

The management/admin of the hostel were all Salvationists, and they had a small chapel there which staff used all the time for prayer, and residents could as well. And certainly anyone looking for Jesus would find it there, and lots of people to talk to if they wanted to.

But I can honestly say that for the majority of residents there, it would have made little difference to anyone in one of the council or other charity run hostels in the city. I was part of a team of project workers (working to move people into their own housing), and none of us were Salvationists, nor any of the social workers there. And we were the ones who residents would have by far the most to do with.

I remember on our care plans there was a section relating to the 'spiritual needs' of residents, but i never felt that was used to push any agenda, and more to do with other faiths.

So like I said, I do have issues with the greater ethos and belief structure (and for that reason wouldn't choose to fund them), but I can still respect what they provide to the homeless.

That's interesting (and reassuring). After hearing about their shoebox appeal every Christmas and how it seems like a lovely idea until you find out they bung evangelical literature in with them, I wondered if it was similar with their other projects.

But yes, they still have enormous issues regarding the LGBT+ community.

When I was there, there was also an onsite residential unit for opiate detox, with residential rehab as well. That has been gone a few years, but due funding and recommissioning rather than any lack of commitment. They very much pushed the 12 step higher power model, but then that works for many people. And the higher power doesn't have to be God.

The whole evangelical business worries me far more abroad, if I'm honest. Although I guess there is the argument that a lot of the people they work with here are vulnerable as well. All I can say is in my experience of working for them, at worst I'd say the good far outweighed the bad, and at best it wasn't an issue at all.

As far as LGBT+ is concerned, I don't know anything more than I would expect of any church based organisation.

We'll discuss this at length when we all go for executive dinner at that restaurant that only opens for mods and admins.

If Tisch is found to be in contempt of Moop, I move that we officially rename him Shiteclamp.

I don't think you'll get very far with your meal without the treasurer :oi: Unless you're all very good at washing dishes.

I don't want to dob anyone in it. But I asked an admin nicely after let's just say, eight phone calls.

My friend has decided she's vegan today. Last week she had a plate of meat, but today she spent ÂŁ6 on some vegan honey just so she can # all things vegan on Instagram. She's the shittest vegan ever.

Right I'm off for my walk during which I might ACCIDENTALLY run into (at 2m distance) a friend who is holed up with someone who lives near me :)
Or not, as it's just started raining. ARSE. I haven't left the flat since Monday

Isn't avoiding honey the start of the not eating avocados slope?

And then loads of fruits particularly, unless you can be 100% sure of their provenance.

Mr L has just come back from Asda with four Yorkie Easter eggs. Just as my skin was starting to recover :(

Yeah pretty much. But what's frustrating is she's not even vegan. Or vegetarian. She eats loads of meat but doesn't post that on social media. To her "followers" she's vegan :manson:

Post asking her if she can use vegan honey in soy and honey pork.

I have nothing against vegans fyi. I eat as much vegetarian food as I can, mostly because chewing on meat makes me gag. Which is why I'm a lesbian.

But I don't post on social media every time I eat something vegetarian to make people think I'm some amazing person saving the planet.
