This Joe Kearns person is all over the album.

This seems to be a common startegy these days. Release about 5 buzz singles of varying quality and success, then relegate them to 'bonus tracks" and launch the album without a proper hit See also Haim and someone elae I can't remember right now. I just don't GET it.

Didn't she do the same thing with Delirium? (Outside/Powerful/Love Me Like You Do etc). I loved that album but it's been so long that I can't imagine the prospect of her competing with the likes of Dua Lipa in 2020.

I think you could argue they were stand alone songs from other projects (50 Shades & the Calvin/Major Lazer albums on which she was a feature rather than lead artist iirc). On My Mind felt like the clear lead single with Delirium. Not that it matters I suppose, but I just hate the messy way album campaigns happen these days.

Please let Starsmith be a good sign. Lights was such a good album, Halycon had its moments and let’s just leave it there

I mean, for someone who's seemed to be flailing recently, 3 of her last 4 singles will have collectively a billion streams soon - only the last one flopped. I don't think she's competing to be that kind of pop girl, at least not by choice. It's probably what the label wants, but i reckon the decision to release this album with the other tracks stuffed onto a bonus disc essentially signals that they're letting her do things her way at last, and that's probably more about delivering a great album and restoring a bit of her reputation.

Album delayed until July :(

In the meantime, Power is the new single coming in a matter of HOURS. It samples Dua Lipa's Be The One :bruised:

and here's an interview where she nonchalantly shades most of her output between 2018-2020 at the 1.35 mark :D which is a relief.

Oh the new song is actually bloody marvellous

ELLIE UP

the new song from the second disc is out - Slow Grenade with Lauv

it's quite good! definitely a bit of Close to Me energy, it's pretty catchy. Power completely bombed but I can see this doing OK

Yeah I loved Power too, but I get the impression the world has sort of collectively lost interest in Ellie Goulding.

She had a good run.

I know you like your absurd broad statements with no more factual basis than the S/S20 edition of Cwej's book of stats, but let's break this down a bit:

Hate Me (2019): passed 300m streams this week
Sixteen (2019: 207m streams
Close To Me (2018): 470m streams
Ellie Goulding: 26m monthly listeners (76th in the world)

No interest whatsoever!

I think this will be quite an interesting campaign to look back on when the dust has settled.
I don't think she's come out and actually SAID IT, but there's been a clear disconnect here between what the label wants, and what she wants - resulting in this album with "Eillie's" tracks on one disc, and "the label's" attempts at creating a pop hit with a bunch of random rappers on the other :D It's quite lol that they are trying to pass this off as some sort of REBEL/HEART concept album :D

That said, Close To Me is probably one of her biggest hits these days, and she has had A LOT of hits albeit slightly different ones in different territories.

The other factor is that I just don't think she wants it enough anymore, and it shows with the random disjointed singles and the WILL THIS DO artwork.

She’s just one of those artists that no one has any interest in HER but they like her songs. It’s all too common these days.

That's weird, I was thinking about her this morning. Stuck Halcyon Days on to remember HAPPIER TIMES :(

Is this album Dead in the Water (lol) then? Why does she keep going so quiet?

Album's still coming out in July

Ellie's been one of the most mishandled singers this decade, her A&R's work has been a fucking nightmare, she now wants to go back to the singer/songwriter vibes she first started with, hence why Starsmith and Jim Elliot are back on this album. I cannot wait :disco:

oooh good. “Lights” really is a wonderful album

Yes, Lights is a good album, and remains her best.

I seen her live during the first album and she was much better live than I thought she’d be.

I even like The Writer @Jark :D
