After yesterday’s hot flannel chat, what delights await us today?
 
I am absolutely awful at identifying household objects. I cannot get my head around the difference between a cupboard, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a dresser... They are all THE SAME to me. It's so weird. When I want to refer to one of them, I panic because I have no idea which one I'm trying to refer to

It is frustrating for everyone in my household
 
I remember talking with @Suomi in my car for SOME REASON and talking about the "precinct" ahead of us and him politely listening and nodding along for some time before he quietly said "what's a precinct?" and I had ENTIRELY forgotten that his impeccable, as British as Nigel Farage accented speech hid the fact that his mother tongue wasn't 100% English.

It’s a pedestrianised area. Usually a shopping area. It’s one of those words that doesn’t really get used nowadays.
 
(That’s the British use, by the way, the American is obviously different)

Cupboard - What you put your CUPS in (kitchen)
Wardrobe - What you put your ROBES in (bedroom)
Drawers - Something with drawers in
Dresser - The thing you stub your toe on in your nan's front room. Will almost certainly have doilies and faded school photographs atop it.

I remember once @Suomi sitting quietly in my car nodding along to our conversation, but that was because he was about to vomit.

I've only ever seen Ethel Austin in tiny town centres - it would be that and Select for women's clothes. A bit of George and, if you're lucky, a market stall on Thursdays for men. Farnworth in Bolton used to have all of the above.

I've never heard of it either. But then I bet it isn't a PATCH on our local Maudie Trollope's Emporium. My dear old Granny never shopped anywhere else!

Old lady clothes are so much more glamorous than old man ones. Elasticated waist slacks in LOVAT? NO THANKS.

I think I'm going to start pushing the gender boundaries wardrobe wise should I hit 70.

I'm fist deep into reading about tragic sixties gays at the moment. This dated furniture chat it's putting me RIGHT INTO the homes they got chucked out of.
