Thursday seems a little on edge and not quite on the same planet

Honestly the way some islanders are going on about it you'd think the whole world now had access into your home :square:

I'm not the biggest conspiracy theorist but giving a company/government unfettered access to your data indefinitely, especially a government that has been PROVEN to misuse such data, is erroneous.

I also call ASDA 'the ASDA', and I don't think I'm wrong in this.

Certain members of my family insist on saying that they’ve BEEN TO THE LIDL’S and also I often hear things like OFF DAHN THE TESCO or indeed TESCO’S, both of which are blatantly wrong so I’m afraid you are too :)

Although adding “the” or “‘s” to supermarket names OR BOTH does seem very (and frightfully :tongueout:) common

"Front room" is more common than "lounge", I'd say

Oh I love doing this, OFF TO ASDAS

As for the Asda conversation, in Portsmouth, you add an S onto EVERYTHING. So "I'm going down Asdas/ up Tescos/ to Lidls"

It's definitely one which EXPOSES someone

Like using SERVIETTE instead of NAPKIN

I was raised to believe if it sounds French then it’s common. Always use the english sounding equivalent.

Obviously you never say common out loud to describe something either- to do so marks you out as common.

Nothing like the British class system and chips on our shoulders.

My aunt goes one better. "Matalan" becomes "MATALAND'S"

Meh. What's the worst that can happen :zombie:

They do. Did you not read the terms and conditions?

Sainsbury's actually went the whole hog and rebranded themselves as "SAINSBURY'S" didn't they. Urgh they're always the worst of all the big shops.

Anyone fancy coming into A&E. I’ve booked in ONE patient since 7 :D

I used to think of Sainsbury’s as one of the POSHER SUPERMARKETS but that was because the first one I ever went to was in South Ockendon, where the only other supermarket was a vile dump called Heley’s. The only memory I have of THAT was the overwhelming stank of raw meat as you walked in, plus a general air of DISARRAY

My cats come from South Ockendon :D

With me it's either 'down the Asda', or 'up Asda's', like 'going down the town' or 'going up town' mean exactly the same thing but I'll use both interchangeably.

Oh, 'Bootses', as well. If you're speaking about it in the past tense, you say 'I got it from Bootses'.

DARN TARN

@Iguana always corrects me when I say we're going "up to Brighton". Thankfully I never POP anywhere though.

They’ve definitely at the middle-upper end of the supermarket class system. Not quite Waitrose or an M&S Food Hall but higher than working class Asda or Morrisons.
