Ace of Base - deluxe reissues

Sometimes I can't with the trippy vibes of 'Dancer in a Daydream' :disco:

What an ODD SITUATION

What an ODD SITUATION

:disco:

I still to this day don’t understand what idiot thought Lucky Love was a lead single when Beautiful Life was waiting in the wings.

The Sign
Lucky Love
Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry
Everytime It Rains
Would You Believe
Life Is A Flower
RAVINE :D
Waiting For Magic
All That She Wants
Always Have Always Will

Oh it's IMPOSSIBLE

I still to this day don’t understand what idiot thought Lucky Love was a lead single when Beautiful Life was waiting in the wings.

Not to mention stopping at two singles in the UK, (three elsewhere, admittedly).

And also it massively underperformed didn't it? I seem to remember it went in at No. 20 and then just fell off though I could be wrong...

It flopped over here and then wasn’t a huge hit in Europe either. Which makes it even more baffling that they ignored it for single #1 in the US, but went with it as the second!

"Beautiful Life" and its ridiculous video was always on MTV Europe though so that made me happy :disco:

I can't even remember the "Lucky Love" video. Don't even know if I've ever seen it actually...

I seem to recall they rushed Beautiful Life out when Lucky Love began to bomb. They were released really close together.

I know The Sign has all the iconic hits, but Flowers is just one of my favourite albums ever ever ever.

It's just so warm and summery and quintessentially late 90s. Never fails to put a huge smile on my face from start to finish.

They also MASSIVELY missed a trick in not releasing Don't Go Away, surely their finest ballad?

Do you wanna be more than a picture
Hanging on the wall?
Something to remind me
How it all went wrong?

Do you wanna be more than a number
Forgotten in a book?
You're holding something special
Take another look...

:(

They're just so good. I popped Happy Nation on for my walk and I realised I've known that album BACK TO FRONT for 2/3 of my life. All 10's.

Including the remixes tagged on at the end. The EXOTIC BANGHRA REMIX of All That She Wants and the Enigma esque Happy Nation :disco:

The Sign remains one of my most played songs of all time. I know it's probably about swastikas but SUCH JOY.

And don't get me started on the BLEEPY GOODNESS of Young and Proud.

Also Voulez Vous Dancer is the best song EVER using the term 'voulez vous'. Not sorry.

Wasn't Beautiful life released as their first single in America instead of Lucky love?

1. Happy Nation
2. The Bridge
3. Flowers
4. Da Capo

The law of ever diminishing returns I’m afraid.

:disco: at the release and the looning up in this thread.

I do love a nice boxset (and this one appears to be sensibly sized). There seem to be a lot of these complete albums type releases lately, even Nick Kamen has one upcoming!

I love it when it’s actually (more or less) complete. The Donna Summer Box wasn’t QUITE complete enough to be honest, but the disco remasters were quite the LURE.

There is loads of stuff on this I don’t have, mind. Hidden Gems Volume 2 for starters :disco:

My favourite of their HIDDEN GEMS is:

Make My Day

and Moment of Magic

and prostitution anthem LOVE FOR SALE never gets the attention it deserves

I'm not sure what Amazon are up to with scheduling this for delivery next Tuesday when I pre-ordered.

I've decided I'll wait for a deal. As much as I love them and as much as I will CERTAINLY be buying it at some point, it's bound to go on sale at some point and £70 for Ace of Base is perhaps a TOUCH TOO MUCH.

Have the albums been remastered for this boxset, m’dears?

There are audio mastering credits in the booklet. I've only listened to Happy Nation but I don't think the sound is all that special.

It is a LOVELY PACKAGE, even though I agree with Shee that seventy quid was probably a bit too much for me to spend on Ace of Base.

Yes - the packaging is lovely and as someone who previously only owned the studio albums it's nice to have all the extra tracks and remixes, so I'll work my way through those. I don't think £70 is that bad though considering the quantity of material. Jury's out yet on the quality though.

But then my perspective on finances may be skewed by my current pathological vinyl habit :bad:

The CD Box set is apparently now out of print, and at the moment there is no plans for a repress.
