Ugh - I have episodes expiring again...Holly Johnson hit diminishing returns pretty fast didn't he? Queen on a train, I seem to think this video was quite celebrated at the time. Difficult to see why at this remove. I fucking hate Roger Taylor. Is Roget Taylor worse than Anthea Turner? I don't remember Tim Smith at all. Gladys Knight rocking a tux. Not a bad tune this either...I remembered it a lot better than some other Bond themes.
 
I think we were on holiday when this episode happened...Monie Love decent but don't remember this at all...Karyn White not even triggering the vaguest of memories either. Makes me think that I missed what would have really been the only real chance for these songs to get into my consciousness.
 
I had the Danny Wilson album so I remember that...Beautiful South I remember being genuinely surprised this did so well given that the last few Housemartins records hadn't done so much and it was obviously much shitter.
 
I'm right - I first heard "It's Alright" in the car on our way back from that holiday - I like this rather than love it.
 
Don't remember the remixed "Ain't Nobody"...amazing how missing TOTP for a few weeks can essentially delete a song from yr memory.
 
Danny Wilson proving that Scottish bands have an annoying tendency to fuck about and think they're funny - two of the band reduced to clowning for the telly when the three of them actually made every sound on the damn album in a wee studio in Dundee. Too easy to see them as novelty or insincere. An example at a much larger scale is what happened to Travis when they made a particularly serious single/video - "Re-offender" - and it killed them commercially.
 
That last episode was almost enough to make me wish I was 18 again

Norman Cook - cheesy but not that far away sonically from the Fatboy Slim records that would make him huge. Quite cute for him to have a bunch of his mates in the video too.

I like the way ANTH bigs up all the REAL DROSS like THEN JERICO and THE INVISIBLE MAN. I mean I'm well documented as not minding a bit of SIR FRED but that really was a LOW POINT.
