2 of Eternal. Louise and Kelle were discovered together in a club at 16 weren’t they? At least Louise was. I can’t remember if she introduced Kelle in the club or brought her along at a later date.

I remember nicking the Sun newspaper from WH Smith Liverpool Street that week to show me mates at school and look through the paper. I am pretty sure most of them flipped the page and went 'coaar Caprice is fit'

 
"War Of Nerves" as the only song of theirs to ruffle my feathers. I liked the video to "Under The Bridge" but I detest that song in any incarnation, especially the original which can fuck off and then keep fucking off until it meets itself on the way back 'round.
 
I know it's sacrilege and blah blah real music whatever, but I vastly prefer their version of Under The Bridge on account of All Saints actually being able to sing.

Their version of Lady Marmalade is HORRID, however. That dated K-Gee production sounds so nasty these days. I suspect it always DID.
 
What must have been going through Mel C's head at this point thinking she's a mix of Shirley Manson and Sharleen Spiteri on her own and an overgrown Daphne and Celeste thing with the band. At least the other Mel had a coke habit, a bathroom with 2 toilets in it and empty bank account to explain her own vile antics.
 
You'd think K-Gee was their Timbaland or something. I also liked their Under The Bridge (and yes, great video in tribute to the Kate/Sadie/Meg set at the time).
 
The back cat is sublime.

1. Black Coffee - was nonplussed at the time, but it emerged as their most lovely and timeless track
2. Pure Shores - ultimately, their best song, but overplay has dimmed the light of its Millennial oceanic bubbles a little
3. Bootie Call - still slaps harder than a dom top giving his slut bottom a spank
4. After All - closing out the William Orbit trifecta. A lovely addition their latter-day back cat.
5. War of Nerves - I would have loved to hear an Orbit version of this, actually
6. Never Ever - the naggingly infectious chorus is, strangely, the worst part. Nicole's spoken word intro, Mel's sweet verses, Shaznay's killer bridge... Iconic.
7. One Strike - fantastic comeback
8. Rock Steady - just slightly less fantastic comeback
9. Under The Bridge - I prefer their funky late 90s reading to the slightly dour original
10. I Know Where It's At - a cute little opening statement, but so much more was to come

They never sing that live do they - LM - which would be such a crowd pleaser at the festivals. Makes me think they hate it too like they hate 'All Hooked Up'

I love you dearly, but Bootie Call that far up makes me question everything about you :D
 
Can we also please note that I Know Where Its at was not the first of them, you 90's DEMO queens

Bootie Call is a sentimental favourite. We used to bop to it for hours on end back in late 97, early 98, long before it reached its hallowed status as a #1 single. I loved the video as well.

they like to put that and Rock Steady as third song in their live shows.

I remember being surprised when they released Bootie Call and it being their third #1. They were so big I think any fourth song from that album would have been #1
 
So the early leader is, the expected track, which I don't think they, or many other bands can top?

I think this sums it up for me - was this the gig from Fatboy Slim when they said no other festivals or gigs on Brighton beach evah? I think it was

Never Ever - probably their signature tune apart from Pure Shoes, not getting many votes. interesting
 
Call it overplay, but I'm totally over Never Ever. I find it more irritating than anything these days.

I mean Never EVAH was the soundtrack hit of my first year at uni.

My BFF at the time actually loved the spoken word intro so much she used to write it all over her notebooks and lab project reports.

She failed the year.

Have they performed it on The One Show yet?

Natalie really should just do a solo album with Orbit. I mean, I do live for a certain someone's hic-up vocals, but her potential is somewhat held back by a project that has now pleasantly surpassed where it could have finished a long time ago.
 
Black Coffee. But it's so hard to choose. Their singles are pretty consistently amazing.
 
I missed this, sob! Amazing looking back that the debut album is essentially an R&B album.

I'd pick War Or Nerves, One Strike and After All. WON is a classic and timeless, but their two big singles from this decade deserve a mention. They are both amazing.
 
Their pre-Appleton single 'Silver Shadow' has been released by ZTT today.



Nothing earth shattering, but a nice little curio.
