God, Nicola Sturgeon’s briefing about lifting the lockdown in Scotland was like night and day compared to our sorry lot.

Authoritative, clear in her explanations, focused on the things the public wanted to know about, gave clear direction for people to find out more about other more specific information...

Anyway, I'm delighted at the lifting of restrictions and being able to meet people from another household.
 
Gyms are going to be the last thing. I’d wager if anything was later than pubs it’ll be gyms.

Well I'm definitely going to start bullying everyone I know in London with a garden to have a BBQ ASAP. Getting on a train to go and visit either of my parents is a bit more foggy though.

I love the idea that people having family barbecues, many in very modest sized gardens, even SQUARE METRE PATIOS, are going to social distance. Good luck with that when everyone's a crate of cider down.

Also: "Remember you must stay two metres apart but DO remember if you pass someone some food to wash your hands" :D Should have clarified that we had to hurl burgers at guests.

I know it was happening anyway but like fuck are these situations going to involve any form of distancing.

I've hated the woman LONG BEFORE it was FASHIONABLE to do so but I think it's good that she is explaining herself because a lot of the times I can tell that there are many factors BEYOND her clear bias that get misinterpreted (context, brevity or simple incompetence - not that they exonerate her in any way mind you). It means, at the very least, that she is aware that her reporting is not cutting through with the population and that she has to check herself. That's something.

The TONE she could work on - but she won't because that's all she knows.
 
I don’t hate Laura K as much as everybody else online seems to do. She frequently looks exhausted to the point of near collapse.
The BBC is in an impossible position in regards to news neutrality really.
 
When she did her first hack job on Jeremy Corbyn back in 2016 I think I already commented on what I don't like about her: she is into politics, not policy. She loves to draw juicy stories and focus on anecdote, not data, which in turn expose her bias. I don't think that's the sign of a good journalist.

To her credit, I'll say she has mellowed somewhat, but when she started I think she also confused being assertive and thorough with the kind of BARKING Paxman and Neil try to pass off as journalism.

I have always said that the BBC problem has always been more systematic than down to individual journalists. For example, on paper, giving both sides the same amount of time is unbiased. But it then ignores the duty for truth and various other things that require discretion and understanding, which isn't as simple to defend.

I mean she does have a bias, let's not now pretend it's not true. She just DIDN'T GET why Corbyn was elected or what he stood for. She tarnished him with the "RADICAL" brush from Day 1. I don't know if it's a matter of UPBRINGING or EDUCATION or INSTITUTIONAL BIAS (or a combination of all) but she clearly didn't understand why people would choose a man who WOULDN'T BOW TO THE QUEEN as leader of the Labour party.

Exactly this. Their dedication to presenting both sides means they seek and promote contrarian opinion from people like Farage, Harwood and that snivelling little bucket of shit Darren Grimes. By giving these people airtime on the BBC, they give their words the same value as whichever expert they're spouting off against, and in doing so give their views a legitimacy they would otherwise never have.

I do think the BBC were instrumental in Farage's popularity.

Same here. We have no reason AT ALL to believe a single word Boris and pals have ever said, so why should we start believing that BBQ season commences here and it’s ALL FINE NOW, just because it suits our own desires and we quite fancy a giggle and sausage?
