Clearly they didn't manufacture too many physical copies because they're v expensive on Amazon. I may have a look on Discogs as I tend to be a completist and I'm in a huge Mariah mood a the moment...

How it didn't land despite it being a) fantastic and b) perfect for social/TikTok is beyond me. I wouldn't be surprised if it settles in my all-time Top 10... ok 20 but still.

The whole Me. I Am Mariah era just seems so MUDDLED looking back. The delays, the Art of Letting Go situation, the injury, the album title, the lack of coherency, the squeaky songs recorded at the last minute... mess. But I think there are some great songs on there. Dedicated is A+++mazing and I love Cry., Camouflage, Faded, You Don't Know What To Do and obviously #Beautiful. A shame that none of it clicked.
 
I think this is her best live vocal EVA. I watch it every Xmas, & a couple times in July.

Caution is her second best album after Butterfly for me. It is so, so good, and so consistent. The fact she delivered it 30 years deep into her career just made me laminate my stan card, cover it in lube, and then laminate it again for extra protection.

I think it may be on its way to also reaching my MC all time album top 3 actually.

(I don't do lube/lamination though.)

I listened to M.IAMTEC yesterday front to back, as a matter of fact, and it confirmed two things we already knew: it's one of her best records, and your taste is hopeless and absent.

The first ten songs in particular are FABULOUS with not a dud between them, and she flits effortlessly between genres and sounds while delivering hooks far more substantial than on Memoirs (and despite what you said about the vocals on Me. having some degree of truth - they are strained in places - they're still better than the cut and paste horrors of that album).

You've got retro disco delights (Meteorite is a shimmery groove, You Don't Know What To Do is one of her best songs of the last 12 years), you've got one of her best straightforward R&B midtempos in years (Faded), you've got warm, poppy R&B that her voice glides over sublimely (#Beautiful, Cry.), there's the requisite banger which has held up surprisingly well (Thirsty - for my money it's a much improved Migrate), not to mention the silky '70s soul throwback of Make It Look Good...

I know a lot of Mimi fans are not huge on this record but I really don't know why - it's her strongest work this side of Emancipation.
 
not to be so predictable as to swing by the old cliches but do we know for sure that La Chalamet is NOT one of us? all the signs are there.
 
Caution is an interesting one. Objectively it's very good, and when I'm in a (very) specific mood I can vibe to Giving Me Life, but it feels a bit... tame. Only ten songs (I like my Mariah albums to be opuses), only two or three I would cherry pick on any given occasion. Lots that are perfectly good (8th Grade, One Mo Gen, Stay Long Love You etc) but also blur into one and not exactly essential. In other words, I respect it but I don't love it.

With You is my favourite thing there by far. It's bliss.

Oh no I totally agree. The songs and the melodies are great, but the vocals are so burned out it's really hard to fully enjoy them.

It's obvious on Heavenly, One More Try and Cry especially. Whereas on Caution, she's finally accepted the limitations to her voice.

If I'd love some of the songs on MIAM to perhaps be rerecorded with her current style.

The whole era itself also just left such a bitter taste in my mouth and most of the Lambs because of what dub said earlier about the delays and the disastrous management of Stella B. 2012-2017 really were her worst years.
 
I am a fan of MIAM as a whole but think, as KC says, it’s the associated times and Stella that leave the lambs a bit cold. We’d rather forget that period and celebrate what came later as it is undoubtedly stronger and in a lot of ways Mariah at her very best.

There are some frankly amazing songs on MIAM which I hope as the years pass she revisits fondly, kind of like Glitter now. It’s taken a minute but she got there.

This is pretty interesting, especially Butterfly being so low



I suppose several of the higher albums had the benefit of being released during the streaming age
 
POOR Emotions :(

the figures are interesting but not really representative - for instance, one song on Memoirs has 62% of its total streams. Caution's numbers are low but it's only been on there a short time comparatively. It DOES suggest that Daydream, Music Box and TEOM are the public's favourite Mimi albums, which lines up with their sales success.

Plus there's something called Can You Hear Me listed in the video so it looks like we're going to get actual unheard songs from the vocal prime
