Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 15: Austria, Hungary & Poland (3 Viewers)

I shall add that the vote change was for POLAND, so I haven’t unknowingly knocked Zoe out or anything.

Sorry guys, didn't want to pull focus from @David_5000's Moopyvision final, and then bloody @COB jumped in with karaoke.

I'll get this over the line when that's over.

We’re having the ultimate night on Wednesday aren’t we? Karaoke and FDS. Just add to it! :disco:

Oh is this genuinely not happening now, all because of DC :D

VoR can vote in the dance rate in your place. At least until his favourite dance anthem turns out to be 'Upside Down' by the A*Teens and we all start throwing things at him.

Poland

8th: Marcin Mroziński - Legenda (55pts)

I've now written up summaries for well over 300 entries over the course of this God forsaken countdown, so you'd think by this point I'd have run out of capacity for shock. But revisiting this Polish entry - holy Carola!

In a Contest where success depends on making a strong impression in a short space of time, I suppose there's a degree of logic to going down the little-explored MURDER BALLAD route, but this is still a family show at the end of the day, and witnessing a Patrick Bateman type mime choking his backing singer to death live onstage was probably a BIT MUCH for your typical Svens and Svetlanas settling in for a nice evening of un-demanding Europop with their dinner.

I can't begin to imagine on what occasion you would ever listen to this entry outside the context of puzzling over the train of decision-making that led to it getting here in the first place - apparently it won a proper public selection on Polish television! Far be it from me to stereotype an entire nation, but what a bunch of morbid weirdos!

1 x 12 (auretz)
7 x 0 (Pingu, David_5000, Soldi, dmlaw, superstylin' Ill Advised, Ag)

Apparently the runner-up to sex crime Martin in Poland's 2010 NF was this rather banging pop track. Poland really have form throwing this stuff away, don't they?

7th: Monika Kuszyńska - In The Name of Love (79pts)

monika-wiwibloggs-poland.jpg

On to safer territory now with a nice but soporific ballad which pretty much defines the concept of '23rd place in a Eurovision final'.

I will refrain from making any catty comments about Monika on grounds of taste and decency - she sang this very well and she came across as a thoroughly nice lady during the press events in Vienna, and honestly, the fact that she didn't go off at the genuinely appalling lack of accessibility consideration from the Austrian production team is a credit to her and a deep stain on them.

To conclude, this is perfectly pleasant/boring but it did the job and my arse has never felt smoother or less abrasive since I switched to Charmin double-quilted, so I guess everyone's a winner really.

1 x 10 (auretz - starting to wonder if this was a Belarus-esque backwards vote TBH :D)
4 x 0 (Kevin, Kevin7, Penelope, wurst)

6th: Kasia Mós - Flashlight (94pts)

A blonde lady singing a ballad. That's it. That's the post.

Fucking fleshlight. Probably the most ‘nothing’ song of the entire decade, just impossible to form an opinion about it.

I can - I think it's very beautiful and subtle - the melody swirls in a state of panic as Kasia struggles to find solace and peace. Cruelty to dogs must stop.

5th: Gromee featuring Lukas Meijer - Light Me Up (107pts)

There's a reason Fatboy Slim never appeared in any of his videos. Banging tunesmith, looked like a substitute maths teacher. Such is the fate of Gromee here, managing to render a passable uptempo dance track thoroughly unvoteable by waving his arms around like Steve Wright from Radio 2 accidentally wandering into a rave and wondering whether his pill has kicked in yet (it was actually just a tic tac).

Singer Lukas Meijer is, inevitably, a borrowed Swede and apparently frontman of the dreadfully-named indie band 'No Sleep for Lucy'. There was no final for Poland this year.

3 x 12 (Pingu, Buttertart, Jacques)
2 x 0 (VoR, Ill Advised)

At this point it's worth pointing out that every song in Poland's top four at one point led the voting :D

Gromee looking down to the camera and waving his arms I'm sure made total sense in his head, but in reality he just looked like a paedophile hypnotist.

4th: Michał Szpak - Color of Your Life (118pts)

...
including this, the ultimate gag of Eurovision 2016.

In a final expected to be tightly fought between Russia and Australia, Ukraine nabbing a consensus victory was surprising enough, but this little-fancied ballad staying in the mix right down to the wire was a gay pearl clutch for the ages (and another we'd be ROBBED of under the revamped voting structure - just saying).

At the time we wondered whether renewed domestic interest and a massive diaspora meant that Poland were set to become the new Turkey, but subsequent entries quickly disproved that theory. :D

Perhaps this touching YouTube comment under the official video goes some way towards explaining the appeal...

Here’s the story: -

I introduced this song to my best friend who doesn’t follow Eurovision at all.

I then asked him what place he thought he finished.

“Did he win?” I said

“Yes, he won my heart.

Are you ready to know what happened in the end?”

He replied “Go on”

“This song was badly robbed by the juries, giving him the last place with 7 points.” (he was really sad and shocked)

“But the televote has given him 222 points, the 3rd place, doing the biggest comeback ever made in Eurovision to date. He finished 8th overall.” (He was crying so badly)

“This is our friendship song, it represents everything I feel towards you. Thank you for showing me this lovely song.”

Thanks for reading my story.

3 x 0 (Buttertart, Win The Game, auretz)
