Just finished episode 6 of this - probably my favourite episode yet. The way that this show manages to be lots of things at once is incredible really. I hope it wins lots of awards and accolades.

I have this on my list to watch but from what I can gather if you explain anything about the show it gives it away.
 
Where did you watch 6 espisodes when only 3 have been out?

Ep6 was really interesting, although by the end I found it a bit heavy handed in how it related back to the rest of the series. Like, you felt a bit led towards the conclusion of the final shot. Everything in the contemporary story is so brilliantly and stealthily landed, you just go with it. Whereas some of the construction of Ep6 felt a bit laboured in comparison. But maybe I'm wrong and was just grumpy I didn't have the regular cast to watch...

It's a really extraordinary series. Exploring consent and identity side by side feels genuinely game changing. Michaela Coel is a visionary. Phoebe Waller-b level success needs to happen.

And also - showing up the lack of black british stories on primetime tv to this point - it should not feel refreshing or different to have an all black, young cast on bbc1. And the ensemble being allowed to exist without ticking an 'issue' box to do with race. Give the country MORE OF THIS!
 
I watched for 5 mins and was very irritated. Will definitely try again.
 
I haven’t started watching yet, but I will soon.

I totally get what you mean - I think episode 6 is likely to be very divisive. For me I enjoyed being taken somewhere unexpected, and found the story arch very gripping. We immediately launched into a debate about the girl’s motives as soon as the episode was finished. I also enjoyed the writing - references to “weapons of mass destruction” took me back to being in school at that time too.
 
I haven't seen the sixth episode yet but the series thus far has been very involving. Quite the rollercoaster and Coel has such a presence.

I do feel quite old watching it though.
 
Episodes 4&5 are where this really hit for me, incredible writing and TV.
Somehow an emotional rollercoaster that also manages to be funny and engaging without being preachy, despite everything that is going on.

I think the release plan makes perfect sense too, it really works to give the show some space to digest the events rather than binge watch it. So much happens in the space of a half hour - there’s a moment in ep 5 that is really key to an iconic scene later in the ep that is so easy to miss if you’re not paying 100% attention.

Oh yeah sorry, should have done that ANYWAY!

When the publishing assistant girl says “you can’t change his nature” about Zain - hinting that she has been sexually assaulted by him too, which is later referred to during the Writers Summit speech.
 
Ah yes! That line stuck out at me too. I’d say that specific scene later where she makes her speech was the only moment so far that felt less real than anything else, but it was such an enjoyable moment that I think it was worth it. And what was certainly true to life was the social media moments afterwards.
 
Just finished episode 6 which was...unexpected.
I’m a little confused as to why Theo was running the group, and why Arrabella was ok with it tbh. Had she ACTUALLY been sexually assaulted by her Dad? Was it guilt from the reverse-sexual assault? Was there something else not mentioned on screen that was causing her behaviour? DID I MISS SOMETHING :D So many questions about the Theo character and her motivations.

This is such a unique series. I wonder how it’s all going to end, I’m assuming there won’t be a nice neat conclusion - because in real life there never is when dealing with a subject matter as layered as sexual assault.

her way of trying to right the wrongs of being involved in two fake/reverse-sexual assaults? Perhaps Michaela Coel was trying to factor in that it's sometimes not a clear-cut narrative INTO the narrative of the show?

I don't know, and I doubt we will get any answers either - and tbh I don't think the show owes us any :D
 
Binged through the available episodes last night/today. Incredible. So many unexpected directions.
 
From reading online, it seems most people are somewhat baffled re motives of a certain character in episode 6 - which I assume is what Michaela Coel was going for. I think ultimate these things are never clear cut like you usually see on TV.
 
Somebody who has seen the entire series said that it is addressed again in later episodes.
 
I'm up to date. Amazing. Michaela Coel is such a talent.

Best line was "They're going to play Hamilton The Musical"

Had no idea two new episodes came out today! I’ve been sat like a twat all evening watching Ghosthunters.
 
I haven't watched this yet, going to start tonight, although my boss thinks it's TOO BLACK.
 
I have to say I didn’t really ENJOY this week’s episodes, I spent the whole time with acute anxiety that something terrible was about to happen (and it pretty much did to Arrabella in Italy..!). I don’t think I’d be able to watch this again once it finishes, and that’s to do with the subject matter rather than the quality of the show.

In unrelated news, the Egyptian guy from the party was FIT AS FUCK. Lock me in a bedroom with him pls :D

Got up to episode 5 last night and it's really great, very deftly written, really glad they've given this 12 episodes.

I know his character is awful but that sub-editor is completely MY TYPE.
 
Absolutely right. These last two are an anxiety rollercoaster!
 
Only 4 episodes are available on HBO, so I’m not going to read previous posts as to not spoil anything, but this show is fucking brilliant. I didn’t know of Coel prior to this, but she deserves all the tv awards and hope to see more of her outside this show.
 
LAST EPISODE SPOILERS!

Gosh I am SO HAPPY the murder ending wasn't the final ending :D Fooled me for a minute Michaela.
I think I need to watch episode 12 again. Were all/none of the endings canon?
GAGGED that Theo from Hurts was revealed to be the rapist - so happy it wasn't her flatmate as I saw speculated quite a bit online, and I really didn't agree with as a final twist.

I still don't fully understand the relationship with girl who cried rape at school, and I'd love to hear Michaela talk more about the publisher character who offered her pomegranates (was that a reference to Greek mythology?). She was somehow simultaneous hilarious and utterly evil.

Sad Kwame didn't get a bit more screen time in the final 2 eps. I didn't feel his assault was entirely fleshed out, but I guess the story wasn't based around him as a character and there's only SO MUCH you can go into.
 
Looking forward to the last two episodes this week. I have been hooked.

The range of emotions that come with each episode, just complelling
