Obsessed in what way?

I’m obsessed with TikTok too but basically only Japanese ones, the American ones are all either totally tone deaf influencers, people desperately trying to be influencers or people doing horrible pranks to strangers, or badly acted pranks with family members who can’t act.

I like some of the cat ones though
 
I liked the one about her spraying cheap perfume into the face of what sounds like, an idiot. She is generally quite self effacing. And I'm also a bit drunk.

yeah I saw it but... it just feels like those stories on Facebook where some moral confrontation happens and good triumphs and well we only have her word for it so...
 
I do have TikTok but as Diddy mentioned I always look for silly stupid ones that could feature animals, simple hacks for cleaning or baking or impressions.

but anyway, can someone PLEASE explain what the difference between Vine and TikTok is? People act like the latter is revolutionary when the former even gave us some legendary stuff.
 
I have TikTok although I'd never dream of actually posting anything on it, and am quickly realising that the only things worth watching are the animal videos. Maybe a magic trick at a push.

yeah I know what you mean, I guess the only difference is that the videos are longer and there are shitloads of filters

So I'm not really a TikTok person - I have never Tiked a Tok, and I only occasionally look at it for funny memes or gay thirst traps. But I've been quite disturbed recently by how often the 'For You' section has recommended me Katie Hopkins doing white supremacy rants, Andrew Tate-y stuff or weird conspiracy theories about Madeline McCann being alive.

Have I somehow triggered a far-right algorithm, or is everybody getting more of these lately? Considering how many young people use it, it's really frightening. Even on Twitter that kind of stuff, while everywhere, feels less in your face.

I semi-regularly look through TikTok and i don't get any of that stuff.

as far as i can tell the algorithm will assign stuff to you if you happen to watch it for more than a few seconds. Even if you're internally seething at it.
 
I got one or two right wing things and I made a point of saying I wasn't interested in it and that seems to have taken care of it
 
It’s definitely been co-opted by the right wing conspiracy freaks, just like everywhere else on the internet.

I haven't spent enough time on it to experience that but these algorithms tend to be designed as a feedback loop. I remember reading about how if you respond to things about feeling sad etc, there's a good chance you'll be seeing videos about 'un-alive'-ing yourself, as the kids say.

It's true of all these platforms, but with tik tok I think it's even more difficult to moderate than text-based platforms (if there is even a will to do so?)
 
I looked on it for the first time ever the other day, and most of it was random families dancing to a fast version of George Ezra"s Green green grass.
