I mean one case in a month near me. No wonder i'm getting tetchy about the whole thing. Can we have local un-lockdowns too please?
 
Yeah the DM reported a 50% spike in cases in Tower Hamlets.

The numbers were actually 2 cases one week, and 3 the week after.

But then how on EARTH do they police it? If people won’t listen they won’t listen.
 
I’ve seen that travel “to, from and within” Leicester should be essential travel only, but again it’s not being put into law so how do they enforce it?

It will be a good test to see whether people are likely to comply of their own accord as they mainly did at the start of lockdown, or whether harsher measures are needed. Because let’s face it, this won’t be the last time.

It comes from a click bait article in the Express where they identified fuckloads of cities so they all came up in a google search and one of the areas they were talking about went from 39 cases to 41. :D

Portsmouth and the IoW are amongst the lowest affected places in the UK, by the way
 
If Leicester was anything like Barrow then they were just DOING MORE TESTS - and if true, this would discourage areas from increasing testing because it’ll be seen as a local spike :/

This is the thing with all this.... don’t get me wrong the virus is a real worry and we’ve all done the right thing... but also “there are lies, damned lies and statistics”

Hopefully the government can differentiate between a real problem and something made to LOOK like a problem because it sells newspapers. But, that assumes a level of competency that I’m a bit unsure they have (particularly with a leader who fell for the Brexit stuff)

Well, the Civil Service will know what's significant and what's noise, and will be briefing that to Ministers. So anything running counter to science will be Ministers overruling that advice for political reasons.

Which they WOULD NEVER do....:eyes:

I only mentioned those 3 places as they were the ones I was most familiar with having Moopy members residing there.
 
The data slides seem to have been quietly dropped just a week after the daily briefings ended.
 
I just did an at home test.

Mildly unpleasant. Worst part was constructing the box.
 
Face masks to become mandatory in all shops from 10th July in Scotland.

I ordered masks weeks ago and they still haven’t arrived. :(

They’ve gone one further today and not announced the tally of new cases and deaths at all, despite there being a televised briefing this afternoon.

There's a face mask VENDING MACHINE that's cropped up near me. Truly depressing. Think they do nice patterns though. X

The tracking number they've given says 'we'll update this when we've attempted delivery', so god knows what's going on.

it took me about 3 weeks and I live in London where i think the company is based. The owner wrote a message on twitter recently saying it was just a one-man operation, so I cut them some slack and they came eventually

I've got more masks than pony plushies at this point.

I don't understand why we don't do the same thing in England.. masks are pretty much "the miracle cure we're all looking for" BUT the problem is they work via communal effect (they barely protect the wearer at all if someone without a mask is near them, but they protect everyone else by something daft like 90-95% if you have it and don't realise) and that will never work in the West. Not to say we're a selfish lot but we don't have the "what can I do to help as part of a collective" mindset they have in Asia, we have the "how can I protect myself from everyone else" one. Which means it needs to be mandated via legislation.

Hopefully someone will work their u-turn magic on our fickle government and they'll decide it is a good idea to make them mandatory in shops after all.

Yes, I did think they were a one man band. So I have tried to be nice. He hasn't come back to my email from a couple of days ago though. :(
 
Why are the daily briefings back? I thought they were now finished unless they have something important to tell us. I was feeling quite good about it all but then I stupidly watched this tonight. :(
