Ellie Goulding - Brightest Blue (album 4)

Halcyon is a truly SUBLIME work of ART

The intimacy, and the hope/joy but simultaneous darkness of that album are really stunning.
 
I'd always written off the re-release Halcyon Days as one sell-out commercial song ("Burn") and a load of filler (the rest), but actually, there are some real highs on there. Goodness Gracious, You My Everything, Hearts Without Chains and Under Control are all really good continuations of the main album, and "How Long Will I Love You" is a really cute track which I've always loved.

Just a shame "Burn" was so massive despite so mediocre, and she want chasing hitz thereafter.
 
Don't forget the amazing cover of Alt-J's Tesselate which slaps :disco: I do love "Days" - she was on fire then

I hate how she had so many bonus tracks from that era all spread out in several formats you couldn't keep track!

I live for her cover of High For This (and the Kygo Remix) along the SUBLIME The Ending, a damn shame they're not on Spotify :(

oh it's definitely a GROWER. Repeated listens reveal this is more Halcyon (a more mature version/sequel of it) than Lights (and definitely no sign of Delirium except the second disc) which is a good thing, I'm sure you will like it. Production is top-notch overall.

My post from above is more related to the fact God knows what else she plans to release as a single after Power and Slow Grenade and it's eventual chart position if it even charts at all! but this is what every Ellie stan has been asking from her for ages now. :disco:

It is. It wouldn't surprise me if she listened to it for inspiration and since sister Jark is the biggest Halcyon stan in these parts he will be pleased.
She's back to being miserable over synth hooks, personal lyrics, gospel choirs all around, and that annoying male-vocal effect for added DRAMA. A return to form.

Love I'm Given is the new single and it's REALLY GOOD. They should have pushed this, not Power.



It feels quite NEW for her - there's a theatricalness to it, it's almost a bit Take Me To Church. Diving into the full album now :disco:

God Tides is INCREDIBLE. She says it was inspired by The Blaze (!) and Anything Could Happen. An excellent foundation :disco:

I’m 6 songs in now and it’s really quite a solid effort so far

I just find Woman and New heights so boring (I know this is Ellie but c'mon). Bleach is a grower. Wine Drunk is a blatant Imogen Heap ripoff yet still an interlude, it's NO Chromatica II though :disco:

I see Sixteen was a late addition on some platforms along Spotify, I wonder why :side-eye:
 
Tides is really phenomenal. I can't believe a pop girl made a song like this. It's bliss.

Screaming at Sixteen being included even though she hates it!
