The Moopy Celebrity "Cancellation" Tracker

I do cancel men in my head when they go out with pathetically young women. Michael Sheen is the latest. Which was sad because I liked him.
I do that. Not “cancel” obviously, just thoroughly disappointed. Leonardo DiCaprio has always been like that though. Then again do we reserve the same judgement for Madonna?

Should we be cancelling Gaga for her R Kelly collaboration?

Gaga gave a pretty thorough apology for that, didn't she? Plus she reissued the album with the song removed.

I once fucked not only an EX-COPPER who turned out to be a LIB DEM but also recently became a BARON and ascended to the HOUSE OF LORDS :zombie: It's like a TRIPLE-WHAMMY OF EVIL.

I still reserve the right to judge people's BAD MATING CHOICES, particularly IF THEY KNOW (in my defense, I DIDN'T when I met him).

I'm not sure how many stages removed from a cancellee one has to be. I remember a hoo-hah in the music underground over a band being booked for a gig who were "cancelled" because their label had released an album or two by a group who had subsequently come out as fash. For me, that's too far. It's not as if the label had released any of the fash albums (I don;t recall the group's name but it was a similar situation to Skrewdriver who, when Mark Radcliffe was in them, were a jolly pop-punk band and only later went nazi, thus Radcliffe is uncancelled until proven as a time traveller).

A direct collab? Ill-advised given the rumours but did we really "know" much at that point? Contrast with Chris Brown and how long we've known he was a complete piece of shit.

Kylie went out with a Brexiteer.
Janet recorded a song with violent homophobe.
Rihanna went out with a woman beater.

ALL CANCELLED!

Leonardo DiCaprio has always been like that though.

DiCaprio had that graph made about him that showed he always gets rid of his girlfriend when she reaches a certain age - was it 25? He's completely failed to grow up.

Anyone who appeared on an episode of Top Of The Pops with Jimmy Savile or Dave Lee Travis presenting CANCELLED.

Dear Peekaboo,

Your application to be uncancelled has been refused.

Please continue to double-down on Twitter until your application for Parler has been processed.

Yours,

Satan.

We don't need to cancel them, we can just JUDGE HARSHLY.

Although I take exception to Rihanna being bundled in this category because it's not like he had a proven track record of domestic abuse and she went right for him? I mean I'd judge her in the sense of him being a total douche and her falling for THAT instead! But the way she reclaimed the domestic abuse story for herself in later years makes me respect her even more.

I mean, you literally just have to search "EX-COPPER who turned out to be a LIB DEM but also recently became a BARON and ascended to the HOUSE OF LORDS" on Google. Changing "copper" to "Police Officer" takes you STRAIGHT THERE.

That was it. He seems like an intelligent man. I wonder what he finds to talk about with these girls. What’s the likelihood that 20 year old South American lingerie models are also intellectuals?

No hate but he's a former child actor turned Hollywood A-lister who has had female attention since before he was of legal age, I doubt he's had the most cultivated education. He probably has a lot in common with models who are plucked out of their everyday lives before they're even adults.

At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, it blows my mind that this is the actual level of discourse we've sunk to as a culture.

It is literally meaningless.

I don't think anyone's expecting a SOCIO-ECONOMIC DISSERTATION on a topic called "The Moopy Celebrity Cancellation Tracker"...

I don't go into Eurovision threads telling you what a PILE OF OLE RUBBISH you all listen to!

I don't mean THIS THREAD, I mean the fact that the concept that a person can be 'cancelled' has now become common parlance in the mainstream media, and celebrities with an IQ higher than Gemma Collins are actually writing open letters about it.

In the good old days if you were CANCELLED you were chased out of the country by the CIA and lived the rest of your days in exile.

Eartha Kitt, Dorothy Parker and Bertolt Brecht CANCELLED before it was cool.

For me the difference is that in the good old days it wasn't necessarily THE PEOPLE who were CANCELLING public figures, but more a combination of what was dictated by the press, the moral code of the silent majority and people with a platform like politicians or other celebrities. These days, people can gather together quite quickly and apply pressure in ways they couldn't before, at least not before YEARS of protests, campaigning, etc.

You only need to see how lightly people like JK Rowling are getting away with what they're doing in a MAINSTREAM that is fiercely rallying around her. Imagine if all the debunking of her "facts" that is happening on Twitter wasn't given a voice anywhere. What newspaper would cover the voice of anonymous trans person #1 if it wasn't the number of likes and RTs of their statements that have propped them into a platform to speak?

T'is INTERESTING at the very least.

But the mainstream media has jumped on it precisely because of that. What started as a shorthand used by a certain age-group has grown into a thing and, as usual, grown-ups have miserably failed to understand it and, also as usual, ruined it. Everyone knows that "cancelling" a celebrity does nothing re. systemic prejudice.

Also VoR cancelled for being mean to Gemma Collins.

Tbh I thought that was a load of bullshit. We’d known since the late 90s that his behaviour was inappropriate and there was an overwhelming amount of stuff coming out about him being a dirty, abusive nonce. There was no excuse to be working with him in 2013.

I've always found Brian Paddick really quite attractive.

Also add Lady Antebellum/Lady A to the list (or did VoR say we're not doing this any more?)

This is one of those cases where surely a PR Manager should have been consulted, if morals alone weren't getting you to the right decision.

Yeah, that is super cunty. Nothing says "we're woke now" like suing a black woman for her career.
