Kalavision Song Contest - GRAND FINAL RESULTS FRIDAY 25/09

Well I'm doing the listen on my own time here :) I don't expect my feelings to have changed much since the semis. Turkey and Latvia still shit for starters.

Because if we sent 40 really well known songs then HOW SHIT would this game be?

I do the sensible thing and apply an appropriate penalty if I knew the song myself (but still might score them if there's fuck all else good in the heat) but don't apply a penalty if I'd never heard it myself, even if others have.
 
So you could potentially rank a song you like much lower than one you like less just because you had heard it before. I don't see what is sensible about that! This isn't a game to find the most obscure song ever, it's about voting for the best song! But it's your prerogative.

Exactly. Prerogative. A really well known song will never win because enough people vote like that.

I'm with @cwej on this, for me (and I think most of Moopy) these contests are about discovering new music, not just ranking songs, so anyone who enters something famous is taking a risk. However there's nothing about that in the rules (which is fine) so people can obviously enter whatever they want.

Well it wouldn't be KALAvision then would it :tongueout: Maybe the winner of this can run their own contest, then eventually we end up with dozens of different things all tenuously named after the people who are running them :disco:
 
I’m happy either way but I actually think 40 songs people love would be a great game. I mean, how do you choose between He’s the Greatest Dancer by Sister Sledge and Electric by Lisa Scott-Lee? Literally the Allstars edition.
 
Sweden coming last in a semi is such a gag

Delighted to have sailed through to the final this time and no longer have my name thrown about and associated with the Russian horror. Though I did lose my 12 from each semi-final and also my 8, 7 and 6 pointers in sf1 :D
 
I hath voteth. On my first sweep I only found 8 I wanted to give points to, and I can’t help thinking I wouldn’t have had this problem if you’d voted Russia through and Senegal hadn’t ragequit.

well yes... but it’s just a very different game isn’t it.

like I said, I could potentially vote for a song I knew - but the more I know it, the more I penalise it in my head.
