My sister and her husband live together (obviously) and are both hospital porters. Both have worn lots of PPE this whole time, and when tested and both have not had any symptoms, yet when tested he came back positive and she came back negative. Strange on all counts.

EDIT: I'm taking about the antibody test, not the actual Corona test, which they haven't had.

Hope all will be well @Sheena and yeah get a test if you can. They're not perfect but they give more of a clue than no clue

In other news, ordinarily I'd have been depressed TO FUCK with the BBC's latest article with the professor guy advising the government that we'll be battling this thing for decades. But you know... forget it, I'm not in the mood to be put in a mood, if that makes sense. They can take their pessimistic clickbait and shove it. OF COURSE it'll be around forever, so is the bubonic plague, so is the flu. It'll become one or the other (dangerous but mostly drowned out like the plague, or common but rendered mostly harmless by vaccination and treatment like the flu). Know what else might happen? Quantum computing in a few years figures it all out in minutes and polishes off a few more diseases in the process. Humanity is not as inept and fragile as the media currently wants us to believe.
We just need to be careful until we have a better handle on it, but we're already making great progress...

I haven’t been particularly well since late November (Thrombosis in Nov 2019 and now likely Morbus Chron) and COVID came along when I should have started stuff like physiotherapy for the thrombosis leg (which was then shelved), dropped quite a bit of weight and now I’m looking at cortisone treatment for the foreseeable future (not great for the immune system), going to the physio, more doctor’s appointments again but also returning to the office in September and my job contains traveling all across Europe in the winter months. And I’m struggling to piece it all together because so many more variables than sheltering in place.

Oh gawd :( sorry to hear that Apoca. Hopefully your office will see sense about the travelling requirements

Spain numbers seem to be going up massively again. Do people who are travelling to and from the UK get tested when they enter and when they leave Spain? I know we no longer have to quarantine but do the people going to and from Spain get any form of test to show they aren’t carrying the virus?

I think (because I was looking at holidays there yesterday :bad:) that you get temperature tested on arrival into Spain. Fuck only knows what we're doing our end though.

As much as I would LOVE a holiday I think I am going to hold out. I know it means that I will be governed again by school holidays (if everything gets back to “normal”that way) but I just don’t feel safe enough.

I’m totally confused by how sort of casual people are being about taking holidays and everything.

people are still kind of keeping indoors in Japan and it hasn’t even really hit here. It’s repeaking in Tokyo though - mind you we still haven’t quite reached 1000 deaths yet. But we’ve been a lot more cautious over here. I can’t imagine thinking of international travel

Get well soon babes

I'm hoping to travel to see my family in Northern Spain in September - I've had the tickets since January and they seem to be holding, if they don't cancel I will go. They live far away from the tourist-mad areas and I will be as sensible as I can, but if I don't go then I'm not sure when I'll be seeing my family again because Christmas is definitely a lot more up in the air and Corona will only get worse towards the winter so I'm taking my chances.

Everyone I know is either on holiday now or going away in August. After being cooped up for so long i think it’s quite natural to want to escape somewhere. I wasn’t going to book a holiday but the thought of spending all summer in London which is DEAD was too much.

I’m tempted to book a weekend in Brighton. I can’t have my ONLY vacay this year to be two weeks in North Wales.

If my Mexico trip in December doesn't go ahead I won't have had any this year. Yes yes first world problems I know but I will be VERY UNHAPPY. So I'm hoping for a cheapo week somewhere in September just in case. Might end up being a WARNER or some shit in this country though.

Holy heck. Just had a look at the graph on Google - it's frightening how just a few days took it from our kind of position to exponential and well on their way into a second wave. Just shows how quick we need to be to react. (Even though we won't be)

One of my best friends lives in London and she’s been in Edinburgh for lockdown with her sister. She is going back down to London in September and I’m ever so tempted to go with her. Work a week at hers then have a week off. My only real worry is London ends up in lockdown during that period of time :D But this feels like the best a holiday is going to get this year

same for me - to be honest I have just written this year off in terms of holidays. I feel lucky to be alive and to have my closest family and friends all currently safe, so if all I do this summer is have a beer in the pub then that’s good enough for me.

Which leads me onto my newest favourite game: Hungover or Corona?

QUESTION about self-testing kit - we have it booked it for collection tomorrow. Do we have to do the test tomorrow only before it comes, or can we do it now and get it out of the way?

I’ve booked a holiday to Italy in a couple of week’s time. I figured if I’m going to do it, it may as well be sooner rather than later before everything has a chance to kick off again.

It’s going to be fairly tranquil, minimal crowds hopefully.

@Alla are the figures rising so much in Spain due to more testing?
Yes and no. Obviously due to more testing we have more cases. Until May only 1 in 10 cases was detected, and now it's around 1 in 2.5, so obviously the figures are rising a lot. But as some experts are saying, it's not just that and it's a bit worrying the figures of the last few days. Some regions are going back to Phase 2 (they can't travel to another regions). Madrid is the only place in Spain right now where a mask is not mandatory everywhere (it is in shops, public transport, etc), and I don't understand why, because things are getting worse here. I just hope I can travel next week because I need to see my family and switch off for a while. I just want to be positive and think a second wave is not happening, I can't think of that right now.

Did any of our English queens go back to the gym today?

legit thinking of moving to London tomorrow tbh

I am much the same in trying to stay positive, and hope even if we do get a second wave that it won’t be as horrific as the first. It will be lovely to get away to see family. My mum is usually over here about this time and we then travel back with her over to Ireland for a few weeks but we decided it was sensible not to at the moment. :(

Also I find it absolutely ridiculous that you can get a sunbed here but you can’t go to the gym

It isn't though. When you work out you pant and that causes a wider spread of germs. You also breathe in more so are more likely to pick it up. Or so I have read anyway.

Yeah I went. It was a bit ridiculous- they only have 45 minute sessions so no one warmed up or down that I saw and everyone was rushing about to get everything done, which is probably dangerous anyway...still, it was fun.

I've been swimming since Friday (I sneaked in on their testing session) and I'm booked for every single morning until next weekend. My body is in a bit of a shock but it was great. It was packed though and there's a whole world of KERFUFFLE about how to get changed and where to leave your stuff but the staff turn a complete blind eye the moment people get in the pool so what's the point?

We now once again have to go in to quarantine after going on holiday to Spain. Did they not just say we didn’t have to a couple of days ago? All this toing and froing is mind boggling.

45 MINUTES? I suppose it beats doing my home workouts and getting so distracted they take 3 hours.

Yes, you're right. I guess this is always going to the be a problem, isn't it. Inevitably it just takes a flair up in one part of either country and we're all back to quarantining.

Without trying to sound like NELLIE NEGATIVE I would be quite surprised if this doesn’t happen within the next month or so. It’s going to be a looooong Winter. :(

I'm meant to move there at the end of August and I'm aware that most places are expecting various dips and rises but it is panicking me now.

I knew I should have chosen Edinburgh.

I'm a bit agog that people are shopping and going to the gym. And in the UK, where it's much rougher than here. I have a brunch tomorrow and a dinner Tuesday, both indoors, and I feel quite wary about those. But at least capacity is limited at restaurants.

Well, the brave new world is partly responsible for a convention I go to shutting down for good. Guess it makes sense, we don't know if it'll ever be viable to have a big gathering again :(

Edinburgh was an option? I thought it was London or Spain?

Edinburgh was always my number one choice if I stayed in the UK (or anywhere really), but there were no teaching jobs up and even at that, registering for the Scottish teaching council is a bit of a faff.

So I have this plan in my head to write children's stories on my balcony in Spain in the evenings, get them published and transition into a touring storyteller and creative writing teacher for kids. Then I can base myself in Edinburgh. :)

We're thinking about a trip to Madeira in Nov. Assuming we can still go but Portugal has always been on the quarantine list. Not sure of the cases in Madeira Vs mainland Portugal but doesn't really matter where the laws concerned.

In other news my godmother was literally turned away from boarding a plane today because didn't have an exemption certificate she should have applied for for going to Greece. She was marched back through duty free and nearly got her six bottles of champagne confiscated, but she lied and said she had a replacement flight booked so got to keep them.

There's a reason my mum picked her to be my godmother. :disco:
