Sunday can't read the room

I've met a few people who didn't know what I meant when I said 'close'. Maybe they were just thick.

(sorry @Iguana)

I think they were:

By about 1500, “close” began to develop its now-common sense of “in proximity in space, time, etc.” In this sense of “close” it is the spaces between things that are “closed up,” reduced to a minimum, making the things as near to each other as possible

The use of “close” as an adjective to describe hot, stifling weather (or the hot stale atmosphere in a house or room) comes from the sense of a house or room completely “closed up,” with no circulation of fresh air. This use dates back to the 16th century (“We had now for several days together close and sultry weather.” 1748).

(sorry @Iguana)

I listened to this literally just a few days. He's a actually a great popstar. (And I want him in me etc.)
Give me his output over the Jonas Brothers ANYDAY oh yes and agreed on the latter point too.
On a related not I still don’t know why Under You was never given a proper push it is Max Martin fabulousness

Oh I definitely thought close was a scottish thing

And I've never heard of anyone drawing a bath before :D

Close definitely isn't just Scottish. And I've heard of people drawing baths too. But I wouldn't, because baths are shit.

Drawing the bath or curtains screams delusions of grandeur FOR ME.

Like my boss who insists on calling dinner ‘SUPPER’. You live in a 3 bed terrace in Limehouse love.

I might start using “draw” in this context. “Run” is so very, very common :)

However I do rather hate the word SUPPER, mainly because of the prissy, pouty sound of it. It’s TEA* or it’s DINNER. Case closed

*Because I’m common, obviously :disco:

We call every meal Tonight’s Tea unless we’re talking about tomorrow night’s tea in which case we say Tomorrow Night’s Tonight’s Tea

I went for supper a few months back with someone who was quite posh and was really gutted that the cooking was at best council.

Oh no. Alphabites and Southern Fried Chicken Breast Popsters? :(

Do people draw the curtains too, or pull them?

Neither, because I’m allergic to curtains. It’s the way they just hang there like useless spaniel’s ears when they’re open. (Or UNDRAWN, rather.) Neither use nor ornament :)

We have blinds throughout and only say DRAW THE BLINDS. But can you really say otherwise for blinds?

Ha not quite that council, more a very basic watery spag bol straight out of the 90s. I expected a beef shin ragu with artisan pappardelle

There’s a level of really fucking posh where it becomes acceptable to serve guests carrots from a tin.
