Hopefully we'll hear about the vaccine around this time next month - if so, under the same distribution network as the flu one, we could well have vaccinations and have that "significant normality by Christmas". It's heavily in the government's interest to crack on with it as soon as it gets the green light and have a massive partying and spending spree through December. If we can just keep things under control til then...

I think they're managing expectations saying it'll be sometime mid next year or whatever, to avoid people going nuts too early or getting crushed with disappointment if it does turn out a dud.
 
I really hope so but don't think this year is feasible. The news of the vaccine making t cells and antibodies in the last trail was HUGELY promising but still a lot more to do. What % it is effective is what I'm most interested in knowing. Flu vaccines are only 40-60% effective so I'm hoping they can smash a rona one out that is better than that :disco: but its not likely.

Hopefully whenever it does come whether it be this year or next, the UK GOV gets it together and offers it to healthcare workers and the shielding population first. Not letting the rich just BUY IT :eyes: The world really needs a good distribution method.

I didn't see anything to suggest anything really happened in Brighton. People went to Brighton, because Brighton, much like the way people go to Manchester. I don't think a non-existant Pride event drew any significant crowds.
 
I doubt we'll get a lockdown like we did earlier this year. We're SO MUCH better prepared. The original infection of the UK and other countries happened in a societies operating at a normal level. This time last year masks, hand gels, social distancing, shields etc weren't mainstays of western life. We're far more ready now.

That said, I expect winter to be pretty rotten. There's talk of flu and covid causing all kinds of carnage. That with fucking Brexit happening HALFWAY THROUGH. Mind you media doomsayers WOULD SAY THIS.

Wouldn’t the precautions people are supposedly taking for Corona have an impact on flu though? I’d imagine staying at home, social distancing, hand-washing etc are all good against flu as well?

I read an article a few days ago that reported that the flu epidemic in the Southern Hemisphere this winter was basically non existent because of the above reason.
 
Another high today, 1700ish cases. Definitely on the climb, just got to hope the 7 day average doesn't start doubling or we're in trouble.
 
For the Glaswegians and Glaswegians-to-be amongst us, Nicola just said SGoRR would meet this afternoon to discuss further actions for Glasgow so we may be an Aberdeen by the end of the week. :confused:
 
Despite the extra restrictions here it still felt quite safe going out the other night. We had to hand sanitise, scan a QR code for track and trace and in one bar in particular had to show an email from the landlord to prove we were all part of the same household. A number of bars were turning people away as they were too full, and some were shutting early, but it was nice to get out.

Oh shit. Not that I am either Glaswegian or Glaswegian-to-be, but have a lot of friends there and that is really crap but needs must.
 
It feels like it’s just to clamp down on party’s more than anything.
 
Got loads of holiday to burn so trying to strategise the best time to take a week off... either next week or week after.

Reasoning: I always get a nasty cold not long after the kids go back to school (don't have any of my own but they pass it to their parents who then spread it around work. As my manager in particular couldn't socially distance if his life depended on it - which it might - it makes me a tad nervous)

Using the "14 day isolation upon symptoms" logic I'm thinking typically it'd take about 5 days for the kids to develop and pass it on to their parents, then another 5 days for them to become spreaders. That puts the danger period towards the end of next week, but we don't open Fridays any more so perhaps I'm super careful next week then take the week after off to avert the mini corona wave I'm expecting.
It'll always be a danger but that's when I think it'll be at its worst.
 
I just need to make it to this weekend COVID-free and I’ll be happy. I’m going to visit one of my closest friends and I want to stay over and stuff so I’ve co-invested in a Lloyd’s Pharmacy testing kit so I can check myself before I go to see them. Not fullproof obviously as I still have to get to Oxford but I imagine if I lay low whilst waiting on results and then mask up and sanitise myself to fuck whilst travelling then I should be okay.

I’ve been pretty careful but 2/3 of my flatmates have jobs that involve interacting with the public :(

I got back yesterday!

Greece's overall stats are holding steady and the current fuss seems to be just about Zante (and maybe even certain resorts there), so I wouldn't worry yet.
 
A friend tested positive for Miss Rona when he arrived to Greece a couple of days ago. The whole family got locked up and they’re basically being treated like shit until they get released in 10 days :D / :(

You are using logic there ! you can’t second guess what the powers that be will decide. Whatever happens a proper break will be fab i’m sure :disco:

Bolton and Bury are pretty much a conurbation at this point, though. It’s weird that one is locked down and not the other. Maybe Radcliffe and Little Lever are fulfilling their destinies as uninhabitable no man’s lands to keep you separate.
 
I also read this morning that 35% of UK office workers are back to the office compared to Spain and France which have rates of 75% and 85%, which may explain why our infection rate is holding comparatively steady compared to them, and why it’s ludicrous to encourage people back to work right now, luckily it seems most companies are ignoring the guidance.
