Miley Cyrus - Midnight Sky + Plastic Hearts (the new masterpiece record!)

I am OBSESSED with this song. It’s currently the favourite for my song of the year. Every time I hear it, it reveals itself more and more.

it’s also very fresh and original - while everyone is embracing the 80s through funk and new wave, Miley thought to channel late 80s power pop - Fleetwood Mac, Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner, Taylor Dayne, Pat Benatar and of course Stevie Nicks.

I hope this is the direction of the album. I want MORE.

@Jark you are a TROLL for baiting me :D

I still love the song, it builds beautifully. Just wish it was sung by someone who didn't sing through their nose or tried so hard to perform "sexy" (LIP-LICKING to camera TWICE a propos of NOTHING in a break-up song, I'm so turned on :zombie: )

She's just being Miley :(

Her best friend Lesley to confirm.

She Is Miley Cyrus :eyes: seems the album title hasn't changed since last year

I don't MIND IT but it's a bit WHATEVER

her first top ten as lead/solo artist since Wrecking Ball :o

she really hasn't RELEASED MUCH MUSIC since Bangerz with the various gaps and false starts - hoping for some quick follow-ups and some momentum this time

what a live performance. it rejuvenated the song for me.

she's a total pro at properly oversinging live unlike some girls. ha!

Youtube commentary is overwhelmingly positive about this performance and Miley herself. I sense a renaissance, maybe a cultural rethink. I think people are ready to acknowledge how necessary Miley is to the pop scene.

Slide Away for re-release!

I do fucking lover her and I used to hate all the bad ass stripper schtik from the Bangerz days. After seeing her at Big Weekend last year and now with the release of Midnight Sky she’s just a GREAT GREAT pop star. More of her needed.

She also did a typically full throated take on Hall & Oates on Fallon:

I'm not sure why I find her putting the handbag down so exciting. Take It to the Limit was a cut above for me but looking forward to her next AOR beast cover anyway.

I was in the car with my 22 year old straight nephew, who was singing along with it. I've never been aware of him doing that since he was a young child.

It's a BOOK OF STATS SMASH

my MUM likes it. And her husband, and he only listens to WHITESNAKE

actually I’m not sure if I’m helping the cause here.

a bit shouty at first (@Peekaboo hun sit this one out) but when she hits her stride on the second verse, bitch sounds fucking great.

I heard it FIRST TIME ROUND but I didn't want to BURST ANYONE'S BUBBLE with my unwanted opinions. BUT SINCE YOU SUMMONED ME :side-eye:

She's shouting her way through a song that was made ICONIC for the FROIDEUR with which Debbie commits to it. It's a song about a broken-hearted disco doll trying to shrug her lover off, not ALANIS MORISSETTE telling Matt LeBlanc to fuck off.

SAYING THAT. The whole point of a cover, to me, is to make it your own when you sing it. And she does definitely do that so in that respect it's more interesting than Cher covering ABBA or something equally UNORIGINAL.

Somebody should teach her to INTERNALIZE and REIN IT IN a bit*. For me she's too two-dimensional as a popstar to be playing in the UPPER LEAGUES.

*also how to sing from your DIAPHRAGM
