It’s an unquantifiable comparison really. People spend more time generally in contact with other people compared to time driving in cars. I can’t even remember the last time I was IN a car.
 
Not to sound preachy but as someone who is about to finish a masters on Public Health/Epidemiology and in the middle of a PHD application in something similar...Opinions like that CAR CRASH statement are so fucking dangerous in a pandemic. People are too often comparing Covid-19 to other diseases which is fucking stupid.

NEWS FLASH: COVID 19 is BRAND NEW. Yes similarities can be made but folk need to remember that even the professionals are in a degree of darkness about how this is going to pan out.

The stats posted here are insane too! I despair when I see "but no ones dying"!!!11

If deaths do continue to remain low (which I obviously hope for, but they wont) it is because the initial wave infection rate has been severely underestimated or the older generation and the shielding people are probably a lot more scared thesedays, therefore not leaving the house/putting themselves in covid catching positions. Not because like someone has said... because the ones who were going to die are already dead :D :D

I know everyone has an opinion on everything (as do I) but I am going to try and follow it to the button and then at least I know I am doing my bit. All this talk of it not being quite as serious as we are lead to believe is all just CONSPIRACY in my opinion. If we all just do as we are told things will get a whole lot better in time.

Agreed.

For the sake of my mental health, I am going to try not to get stressed by other people’s behaviour, especially when how they behave is out of my control. As long as I know I’m doing the right thing. It’s like dropping litter. Just because other people do it, it doesn’t mean it’s right and that I should follow suit.

FWIW, my stance on watching the death rate is one born out of wanton optimism, it's not tinfoil adjacent. I don't believe covid has swept the UK of all our weak and we can get on with our eugenically improved lives, I just kind of want some sort of miricle for Christmas. (Mainly so I can go skiing)

I totally get that. I didn’t think you were a tin-foiler! Optimism/different perspectives are always needed.
 
I've just managed to meet up with one of my best friends outside staying apart for all of 15 minutes and now I'm sat here heartbroken that this is all we can do. She's immunocompromised so we can't really do anything else and feel comfortable doing so. What an absolute pile of shit this really is.

I'd wish they all catch it and the only reason I don't is because they probably have innocent contacts who don't deserve to bear the brunt of their idiocy.

Lucky for them it appears to be outside, so not the worst risk.

There’s a definite upward trend kicking in now with the daily number of deaths.
 
This virus don't need no stinkin' 5000.

Bit scary now. I hope it doesn't accelerate past doubling every 7 days or that 50k might turn out optimistic :S
 
At the risk of sounding like a sign in a branch of Lush, LOOK AFTER YOURSELVES AND LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER

Try not to get to stressed about others who are not complying with the rules (unless it’s a party or suchlike that you want to report) and focus your energies on taking care of yourselves and speaking to loved ones more often than you normally would.

Mr RoM is sick with symptoms now and spent most of the day in bed. Luckily due to his job he's managed to drag himself out to get a test quick sharp this morning and results should be with us in 2 to 4 days. I'm off today anyway, but obviously that means I have to isolate with him (oh dear GOD) however until he mentioned it I'll admit it never even crossed my mind once that I had to tell work and not go in :shy: Luckily that was fine, but I was only saying yesterday to my boss how I didn't want to be that person causing upheaval and have people thinking you're using corona to bag more time off work STRAIGHT after I've had a week of leave (not that they fucking should, I can probably count on one hand the amount of sick days I've had in about 10 years) and I can't help, ludicrously, feeling guilty about it, especially as I'm fine. But obviously I'm aware I just need to get over that and as has been said, stick to the rules, especially so in this case. It just feels really fucking weird.

More to the point, we're lucky because he could get fast tracked for a test, this will be done and dusted in a couple of days if it's negative and that will be that in my case assuming I don't get sick. But for everyone struggling to get one, the knock-on effect for couples/families etc as everyone picks up the usual coughs and colds is going to be huge if they have to wait around for 10+ days, never knowing if they had it or not.
 
However FAR more troubling than that - there's no wine in the house and I'm assuming technically I can't even "nip out for some milk", no? The shop's only across the road, Mr RoM suggested calling them to see if they'll bring it round :D I quite like the idea of wine being left on my doorstep as a care package.
