My Moopy Nightmare Monday

Sick leave. I have to acknowledge that I've burned out. The warning signs have been there probably since the end of July.

I stand by everything I've said and I'm not going to apologise for it as it would be disingenuous - they are honest feelings. But the strength of my reactions in the last two weeks is undoubtedly symptomatic of burn out.
Really your employer should be noticing the warning signs as well. One of the problems I have is that we’re just expected to go along with things and be fine and we’re absolutely not. Mental health around here is shot to shit, and the department as a whole just pretends everything is marvellous.

I mean

Burnout is characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism and ineffectiveness in the workplace, and by chronic negative responses to stressful workplace conditions.

I was definitely feeling that earlier this month but even after a fortnight off, a lot of it is still there. I feel like I'm dragging myself around these days. I guess yesterday's forced chirpiness shone a certain light on it.

@lolly - do what's right for you.

Yes, they should. And in my field particularly I'm disappointed they didn't. I've even told them before what my warning signs are (as I've had two periods of stress previously).

But I also have to accept the main responsibility to identify it is my own.

That's part of it. I've had two separate weeks of annual leave since June, because I was aware I needed them, not because I was doing anything special - but within hours of being back, any benefit has been lost.

There are also other very specific issues I've got which I won't go into, but I don't see why I should use any more leave (and if I did, I'd have hardly anything left to cover until the end of March) when I think a huge part of the reason I'm feeling this way is because of work and their handling of situations. And I'M FUCKING SICK!

Vera doesn’t sound like she has LONG LEFT.

Darling, someone has to listen to my SHITE, and I pay her to do it. She is kind of half therapist/half cleaner as I will NOT even attempt to enter my teenage sons room. :zombie: She is only late 60’s, but a bit SQUARE as she will not have a drink with me. Who wouldn’t want to sit and get pissed with me and get paid for it. Some people don’t even know that they are BORN.

Am I doing a @Mel? I haven’t even looked at the other posts in here, and hope things aren’t getting deep.

Hell no, change the subject all you like. I wouldn't want my droning to kill the thread!

Oh GOD. That sounded TERRIBLE, sounds better than me telling you about the years of emotional and physical torture. Still, I took him to the cleaners and WON. :disco:

My AEROPRESS just exploded whilst making coffee and has blown coffee across a 4m radius in the office.

OMG! while you were pressing it? I have always had that little scenario play out at the back of my mind, disregarding it as irrational. not anymore :D

thoughts and prayers obv x

YES! I mustn’t have screwed It on properly! It’s on the walls, floor, ceiling, ME!

My handy @Lucille spy cam reveals that her BUREAU resembles that scene in Sally4Ever where she shats all over the bed. More LAV than LAVAZZA

I've sacked today off and I'm drinking tea. Its bleddy code.

The weather in London is LOVELY today. In fact I'm popping out for coffee as i'm terrified of using the aeropress again.

Ok I’m doing a Mel now

Well the guy I’ve been falling for over the last few months has casually dropped into conversation that he has been actively trying to get a UK visa all year (and consistently failing)

you’d think you’d tell someone you were dating that they were imminently going to emigrate for at least 2 years.

no, better to make nonsensical complaints about things going too fast, even though it’s not going ANYWHERE

Maybe he is pushing for you to PROPOSE so he can get a visa ?

How have you been managing? I’ve just had a bit of a meltdown in the kitchen because I’ve checked my diary for the day and it’s a load of pointless face to face appointments that have been booked in to satisfy figures and not because they’re actually needed. Our well-being matters less than ticking boxes, and that’s a difficult thing to come to terms with.

I really hate that life is like this. Pointlessly putting people at risk for NO reason.

We’re supposed to be seeing 18-24 year olds in the office for certain appointments. Fair enough, but now head office have assigned us a quota we need to hit each day (far higher than it should be considering we’re supposed to be social distancing) so any old appointment is being chucked at us just to fill it. I’m waiting for a call back from my doctor and the department’s counselling service.

A friend of mine's bf strung him along exactly like this for 7 years. Kept threatening to emigrate to Australia without any indication (or actual decision) if that meant with or without him. It was infuriating (for me, on the outside of it).

He sounds to me like a bit of a general FLAKE and/or a DRIP which you are definitely better of not picking up the bits he flakes/drips off constantly. Sorry that you've fallen for him because that's shit. But he sounds useless.

So head office have given you two completely conflicting guidelines? See 18-24 year olds only, and fill a ridiculously high quota?

Yep. They only care about the NUMBER of people we see, not the demographics, even though their whole justification for face to face appointments is that they’re needed for 18-24s.
There’s a lot more going on besides, but that’s what broke the camel’s back for me. I mean, I’m not paranoid about the Covid otherwise I wouldn’t be off to York at the weekend, it’s just that we have absolutely no control, our opinions have been completely disregarded and what we’re being asked to do is fundamentally unsafe in a high risk area that’s on the brink of a local lockdown.
