Iguana rates every song by The Saturdays (updated with LIVING FOR THE WEEKEND)

WORDSHAKER RATE

09 Forever Is Over - objectively not a great single choice - but I love it sry. however, i will concede that the production doesn't sound great a decade later.
09 Here Standing - once again the shouty vox shouldn't work but it does here. they know how to sell a chorus.
10 Ego - a BOP.
08 No One - they do the shouty mid tempos so well on this album. I can't with Molly's lisp-tastic middle eight although "And I don't have to stay here pretending we are good cause we're not, and I'm ENDING THIS NOW" redeems it.
13 One Shot - undeniable chorus, easily their best album track, etc (I'll probably retract this later when I remember another 13/10 moment by them)
07 Wordshaker - not a huge fan of the title for the song or album but it is a TUNE
08 Denial - cute , beautiful gowns etc
09 Open Up - perhaps a bit juvenile/ pure pop for them to push it as a single after trying to make "Forever is Over" happen but what a joy and i love the synths that lead into middle eight
09 Lose Control - lyrics are bit shit even by their standards but another great chorus so I stan
10 Not Good Enough - is it vanessa doing the shouty chorus? I love this. i don't think they ever got credit for pulling this kind of song off. they had so much power with their delivery (excluding dead weight molly obv) and elevated fairly run of the mill pop material even if they didn't have the most distinctive voices.
06 Deeper - a bit lightweight and filler compared to the corkers that came before it. still decent.
06 2am - same as above, these two could probably have been left as b-sides.

Overall, far better than it has any right to be.

Yes! Headlines, as Wordshaker was a big ol flop

:disco: I probably could have thrown an extra point at Not Good Enough and Here Standing - I probably would have done in 2009.

Was Open Up a single?! I hadn't realised!

Didn’t they release an album which was basically just half of the previous album with a few new tracks and they slapped a different title on it?

And they deleted Wordshaker from the internet for years in hopes NOBODY WOULD NOTICE.

Now THIS is my kind of thread and sorry I'm late for this SATZ UP! SATZ UP! party. And yes I've seen them live 3 times :D :D :D :manson:

So when I speak LISTEN!!
This is my DECISION
But you KEEP ON MESSIN' UP THE WAAOWOWOEOEORDDDS

What were they like and was there an EVOLUTION in their performance style across the eras?
I mean I can't deny, the QUEENS OF POO slayed everyone in Bournemouth BIC with the Christmas medley last time I saw them.

And yes the budget went up each time I saw them but the choreo and vox didn't! QUEENS!!

Headlines (2010)

The_Saturdays_-_Headlines%21.png

UK album chart: 3

11 Missing You - Now this really got me back into the Saturdays fold. It's a gorgeous, earworm of a song. I was so excited for them when it did well, although I'm still sore it didn't get to #1 despite being top in the midweeks. :emoji_grimacing:

10 Ego - Hang on, haven't I heard this one before? Attempting to capitalise on the one hit from Wordshaker, I can forgive them the duplication as it really is very good and it fits the sound of this EP.

10 Higher - Such a catchy euphoric tune and it harvests the sound they were trying to go for with Work, but make it far more 'Saturdays'-esque. I love the remix version where Flo Rida goes "What you doing Saturday girl?" to which the response from Vanessa is "I'm doing nothing". Well OK THEN.

07 Forever Is Over (Radio Edit) - This edit is better than the version on Wordshaker. But only just and mainly because it's shorter. It didn't really work girls, MOVE ON

09 Died In Your Eyes - This is one of their best ballads I think, on par with Fragile. The production is lovely on it and they sound great. Quite MATURE for them.

10 Karma - Yaaas! This one is a banger and I'd have released it as a single PERSONALLY. Very catchy and it has real life. It's them being a bit tongue in cheek but also not cheesy (take note, Open Up). OK "Man I hope you choke on some really hot coffee" isn't their best line, but I'll forgive them that on this occasion.

09 Puppet - Another super catchy tune. Where were all of these on Wordshaker?! Love the synth attacks and the bassy synth in the middle 8.

09 One Shot (Starsmith Mix) - I actually prefer this mix to the original. It still doesn't quite make it to a 10 for me though. Sorry everyone.

Average score: 9.4 - maybe they should have stuck to very strong EPs?? Only dragged down a bit by Forever Is Over.

Higher is my favourite Saturdays. The first line of the chorus "So when I SPEAK LISTEN" is just so joyous. :disco:
But you keep on MESSIN' up the WAAOORORORODDDS Vanessa vocalisation edit is a Moment.

In fact let's face it Vanessa is the Top Vocalist Of All Time.

Sidebar: my girls and I used to recreate this iconic performance back in the day complete with mismatched arm-ography. The BASIC iconography of it all :disco:

It's a shame Moopy doesn't allow you to like your own posts because that performance is something else.

Also I am not sure I like this undertone of Vanessa shade permeating this thread

In case you were curious, Vanessa has been awarded an overall score of 5 stars for her feet on the site WikiFeet.

See here for a gallery of photos of Vanessa featuring her feet with comments left by visitors to the site such as:

“Now look at these close up beautiful toes! Perfect pedi! I love her toes and how the shape and color of her nails are. SO hot!”

There’s a popperstastic Cahill remix of Missing You which I enjoy a lot despite it being geared towards the lowest common denominator.
