Come ye, come ye.

A MODERATOR is there to ensure orderly use of the forums. This usually involves:

  • Move/split/merge threads
  • Edit posts by anyone
  • issuing of bans
Technical knowledge is unessential.

We're aiming to have around five to eight moderators. The voting process will be announced when we have a number of candidates - the aim is to keep it flexible for now to encourage as many people as possible to apply. This may be either a VOTE for a limited number of positions OR a CONFIDENCE VOTE of yes/no against all the candidates - depends on how many people enter.

Timeline:

Nominations by Saturday, 3rd October 11.59pm
Voting by Thursday, 8th October, 8pm
Indie allegedly goes on holiday Friday all happy and like.

Obviously I would like to stand as moderator again.

I think I've been very good and excellent at moderating. I've made some tough calls, from issuing warnings to cherished spambots, to merging the threads nobody else dared merge. I would like to think I'm approachable and that people feel able to speak to me if they've a problem. I'd also like to think I'm reliable, conscientious and nurturing. I'm not, as the sheer number of my children who've become wards of the state will attest to, but I like to think it nonetheless.
I would say I've been a useful, visible mod since I seized power in April. Vote for some of the other ones as well because they're proper nice, but make sure you vote for me most of all.

I want

buttertart cos he’s old and sensible like me
Iguana cos he does a lot of things and things
VoR cos he’s a reliable old hand who knows the place inside out
Tisch cos he’s a stat queen on the sly
Jark because he contributes a ton

And maybe one or two others I can’t think of

And can our Su run again because it’s fun. Thanks.

Honoured @funky! But I will not be running as I can't be arsed. There are better SCTAT queens out there, a read of the admin election thread proves that...... IF YOU DARRREEEEEEE

If nobody else comes forward it’s going to be really hard not to take it personally when I fail to meet the 50% threshold.

Look, I only stood for Admin again because it was 6pm on the last day - a Saturday - and no-one had stepped forward. As soon as I did, boom - 3 more candidates. There will be a lot of Last Minute Lanas.

VoR 2020

Hi guys. I would like to be re-elected as your moderator in 2020. As funky pointed out, I'm an old hand at this by now, and I believe in doing quiet, solid work to make the forum better for everybody. I always try not to be heavy handed, but nary a day goes by when I don't make some small change, whether it be splitting a thread, fixing a broken YouTube link or adding a poll. That's my role first and foremost, not to police you but to make your experience as a poster just a little bit smoother.

On the occasions when drama does kick off, I think I've demonstrated that I'm not somebody who's willing to circle the wagons and shut down dissenting voices. I'm happy to have difficult conversations, to reflect on my own behaviour and potential unconscious biases, and those of others. If you feel marginalised, bullied or ignored, whoever you are, you can come to me. I'll fight your corner - privately or publicly.

I love Moopy because it's a unique place on the internet that provides a safe space for so many of us to share our lives and our passions. In-jokes and edgy humour will always be a defining characteristic, and I'll defend that too where appropriate. But I believe strongly that we have to always be evolving as well. A diverse mod team is a huge part of safeguarding that process. So while I encourage you to vote for me, I do also hope that we see some fresh blood in the mix, particular reflecting posters of colour, which has been a notable blind spot we've had for a while. I don't wish to put the burden of changing that on any single poster, but if we do manage to field some candidates who can help us to broaden the debate, I would strongly encourage you to vote for them as well.

Thank you for reading, and please don't ask for my tax returns.

I will also throw my hat in the ring.

After successfully running an unsuccessful admin campaign (successfully), I would like to bring that experience to modding:
  • I am happy to do the bread and butter thread management tasks as needed.
  • I can make quick and reasoned decisions and will communicate them well.
  • I am thick skinned. If a decision proves controversial I won't take criticism too personally, though of course will take differing views and feedback on board and will not flounce or strop (publicly)
  • Should a public flounce or flop occur, I'll endeavour to make it entertaining at the very least. :emoji_upside_down:
  • I have broadly superfluous to this role tech skills, though I would enjoy the chance to prove that I am a trustworthy individual for any future opportunities.
  • As a newer moopy member, I hope to bring a fresh energy to proceedings.

Do we HAVE any POC who wish to stand for election? Also now @wendy the goat is standing down, the rest of the current team MOD team are all white males. It would be good to get some diversity.

Only @octophone as admin is flying the female flag. We also have @Star of course but her role is largely ceremonial, as the queen of Moopy!

HELLO I’M GOING TO STAND

Yes I know some of you are perhaps a bit cautious about letting someone that’s been here for about two minutes have a position of power, but I feel I’ve got what it takes and here’s why darling’s;
  • Firstly, when am I not around? I mean there was that time I caught a four hour flight home and @Iguana started planning the funeral, but other than that I’m pretty much here all day, all night, ready for your service.
  • In the unlikely event I’m not around when something goes tits up, I’ve got plenty of you on various forms of social media, so I’m only a quick message away if something needs sorting and no other mods are around.
  • I’m very much part of the 2020 COVID-19 era Moopy community. I’d like to add that I ran a VERY SUCCESSFUL A Song For Moopy a mere month after I joined. I have plenty of ideas up my very long sleeve in terms of events to run in the future, and I actively try and take part in anything that’s going on. I think it’d be nice to have a few members up there that actively take part in the day to day proceedings and events.
  • I feel that I’m able to solve confrontation pretty fairly. I’m certainly not one for following the pack and will fight my corner if I believe someone is being unfairly intimidated/bullied, even if the rest of the mod/admin team were to disagree with me.
  • And finally, I FUCKING LOVE THIS PLACE and ALL OF YOU so I’d be chuffed to help this place chug along smoothly.
Thanks for reading if you got this far loves :) x

Thank you to funky and the many other posters who have messaged me asking me to run again. It is something that I will have to really think about it following what was a very humiliating evening for me just earlier this week. Currently in prayer and counsel.

The ongoing Mariah culture war is a distraction from the REAL ISSUES. I will be voting for any candidates who are willing to make a commitment to the following:

- Universal Basic Trophy Points
- Nationalising the various song competitions
- Giving the Eurovision forum the right to self-determination in a ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME independence referendum

I can commit to ALL THREE!

Also, I refer to my original Universal Basic Incum policy goal.

Just to confirm that I will NOT be re-standing for election for the following reasons:
  • The election is a popularity contest, not a vote on people's ability.
  • We need more POC and females in the team.
  • It seems my mod outlook differs with the general consensus.
  • I'm taking a break from Moopy for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to be on the mod team for the past 5 months, I really have loved it, and for once, I felt a bit important on here! Good luck to everyone who is standing for election, and if you're still thinking about it I would definitely recommend it! My tenure was short and had its ups and downs but you can't say I sat back and did nothing at all. Sometimes you make the wrong decisions but it's about learning from your mistakes and moving on.

I would like to be a Moopy mod! I feel the recent resurgence of Moopy requires mods who are present and committed and I can offer both in bucket loads (insert joke about loads). Here are my CREDS:
  • I ran the very successful A Song For Moopy: Iguana Edition last month, which generated a whopping 6,710 posts in its dedicated threads. I purposely made it a short, sharp contest and I feel it was run professionally and with a lot of heart!
  • I run the Moopy Instagram account for us all to perv over each other and I was delighted that a few posters have pointed to it as one of their lockdown highlights.
  • I subscribed for a paid Vimeo account to host the A Song For Moopy recaps and it was also used to upload the Moopyvision final. I'm happy to keep this account running so future competitions can upload to it without encountering YouTube blocking issues.
Here is my vision for an Iguana modship:
  • I will be quick and efficient in responding to sensible Mod requests. I will continue to be an active poster and will be on the lookout for threads that can be split to encourage more posts, or polls that can be added to encourage engagement, without intruding on the natural flow of those threads.
  • I will take a sensible approach to modding, focussing on doing what I can to help make Moopy run seamlessly.
  • I will encourage and support games and contests. These are increasingly central to the forum and I think mods should be active in supporting posters who are running them as and when they want support.

Mr Naef! Mr Naef! @Iguana is trying to bribe his way to victory!

thanks for not randomly tagging me in this latest edition of your “I’m standing down” speech
