I've come home now - as a member of ZG's extended household bubble I now have to self isolate until he's had his results, and if they're negative I can go back to work. There was a bit of consternation earlier when I told one of my colleagues about all this, as she's been picking me up and dropping me off since we opened back up at the start of June. Her dad is in his eighties and has cancer (she was getting ready to leave and take him to an appointment when all this happened today), so she's obviously not best pleased... I feel quite guilty, even though I know logically that it's probably not the right way to feel.
 
We see each other two to three nights a week at the moment, the most recent time being Sunday.

Oh as if it's your fault. It sounds like she's in a very tricky position and I sympathise with her, but she can't blame the pandemic on you (which she's sort of doing in a roundabout way).

I sort of wish I'd waited until she'd gone, then phoned people to tell them about this tonight - might have been a bit smoother. Oh well, if nothing else we're pretty quiet just now so it's not like me self isolating for (hopefully only) a day or two will make much of a difference to anything :eyes:

Are you getting tested as well as Zen? CAN you if you don't show symptoms?
 
I looked at the website, and it looks like you're not meant to get tested unless you have symptoms (up here at least). I hope I've not been some kind of asymptomatic Covid Mary :(

No, at least not to this degree... deaths are usually low after the weekend due to how they're reported but cases tend to be about normal, maybe a little lower. Tuesdays have a low case rate due to how home test kits are processed however.

No idea why it's such a massive drop this time - but the pattern the past few days is looking quite encouraging.

Not as badly as you think if you calculate the average cases and deaths of the past few days. I stand by the comment that there's not usually QUITE such a huge drop on a Monday or really knowing why it was so extreme this time. There was always every chance numbers would catch up from whatever anomoly, but the average still appears to be levelling off or decreasing ever so slightly, in line with the daily ZOE report.

Of course, it could go batshit and we end up at 10k tomorrow. But pessimism does get a bit wearing after a while and there can almost be a sense (mostly thinking of Reddit here) of "wishing for the number to be high, just to prove anyone who's shown a bit of optimism wrong"

I do hope you are not talking about ME when you are talking about pessimism, dear. I think you must take a step back and read your own posts in this thread and you shall see EXACTLY what pessimism looks like. :zsazsa:
 
yes, we're all crossing our fingers that the figures are UP UP UP - it's actually an experience not dissimilar to the daily check I do on the Spotify figures for Diamonds by Sam Smith. like corona that song absolutely kills, so it's always a bit of a BUMMER when the numbers drop :(

I really don’t think Cloud was referring to you. I think he was talking about users on places like Reddit where they practically wish the figures to be high to confirm their pessimism.

I specifically mentioned Reddit to clarify that I wasn't aiming it at you or anyone else here :)

Like a lot of people, I have optimistic and pessimistic moods. Nothing wrong with being challenged by those who are in the opposing mood, long as they're civil about it (unlike on Reddit. /r/coronavirusuk can be.... fun)

Easier said than done when you're highly nervous about where things are going and trying to gauge risks etc.. the comments are a shitshow but the information sharing can be pretty useful

I may be wrong but are the figures not just a bit of a hot mess? I am still only really following the main figures announced by gov as the rest all conflict each other greatly. I don’t even know if it is the figures that are so much conflicting but opinions greatly differ. Who do we believe as everyone seems to have their own opinion on it? I am quite happy following what Whitty and Vallance are saying. If that makes me senseless and a follower of sorts then SO BE IT.
