I saw them at the Bradford Alhambra back in '98. They were opening for Playground Erection.
OT: A Facebook friend posted this today. I cackled.

If the Democrats get all three branches of power, they had better use it to future-proof against Republican nonsense.

i watched the debate in its entirety yesterday morning (cause obviously i hate myself). only seen a few headlines (and the obligatory memes) in the aftermath and i'm not sure why anyone is surprised/clutching pearls at the level of debate. was anyone expecting trump to act differently? was anyone expecting biden to get through a full sentence without making a mistake?

trump steamrolled biden as expected. his behaviour was overbearing and, yes he was spewing a bunch of nonsense and lies, but he sounded convincing and biden didn't manage to rebut any of it. he came across as ill-prepared and, once again, as someone who feels like he is owed the presidency. don't get me started on the "how you doin', man" of it all.

i'm sure trump rubbed a lot of people the wrong way but overall if anyone's mind was changed, i'm guessing it would be to abstain from voting.

choice picks:

- (biden) i am the democratic party!
- (biden) well this is not very presidential.
- (biden) the green new deal will pay for itself. - do you support the green new deal? (biden) no.
- (wallace) can you let him finish first? (biden) he can't do that. (trump) you'd be surprised.

I thought Biden was very prepared, just not ready for that level of dis-discourse.

yeah to say Biden was unprepared is nonsense. I don't have a feeling he feels owed anything or entitled to the Presidency either.

I think most people would struggle to be heard and lay out their own points or rebuttal against such a discourteous opponent. Biden had to defend his family from sustained attacks which I think he did extremely well, particularly when talking about his son’s drug addiction.

Trump came out of this looking the worst, by far. His base may like his style but there’s no evidence it’s appealing to undecided voters or the female demographic he needs to win. Yet again he’s made the US look like a shit hole country and an international laughing stock.

I re-watched the first Clinton one to compare, and while it was an embarassment by 2016 standards, Trump was SO MUCH worse this time around.

the best part of this would be the message to the Republican Party that the short term gain of a celebrity president can lead to long term damage. And hopefully they’d think twice next time before getting behind such a twat

I mean they’ll still vote in a homophobic bible bashing closet racist, it’s still the Republican Party, but I think we’ve all learnt to pick our battles. Need to just raise that floor a bit to pre-Obama levels.

He also looks so much older and fatter this time around! :o

I guess when you’re president nobody can stop you living on McDonalds any more.

Yet another moment that could literally be lifted direct from an episode of Veep...

"There is a complete lack of journalistic curiosity about this'

"I'm VERY curious. Where's the river???" :D

:D

they definitely share a debate coach. when in doubt, talk over the person, talk in tongues and feign injury as often as possible. it's perfect for our constructed reality brains.

i swear if trump wins again i might very well finally lose it all.
well what's left of it anyways :D

Oh come on! Do we really believe it is anything other than a foregone conclusion?

it’s absolutely not a foregone conclusion. Trump has a huge task winning all those swing states. Even if the polls were ~5 points wrong like they were in 2016, he’d still lose by a hefty margin

he can still win, but he needs to overturn a LOT of independents who’ve shifted left. And apparently the % of mail in voting this year is at an all time high, so it might already be too late.

i know what the polls say. i just feel like i need to prepare for the worst-case scenario. it didn't hurt to be prepared last time.

I've been watching a lot of footage recently, and one thing I think we Europeans might be overlooking - and American posters, please correct me if I'm wrong - is that while Joe Biden might appear to us as a fairly uninspiring establishment figure, to Americans he seems to be a genuinely beloved and respected figure who has the rare ability to cross party lines. If anything, the fact that he's been around for so long may well be to his benefit in terms of winning the trust of swing voters. I really hope so, anyway.

I do worry that a lot of the undecideds are Trump voters who are too embarrassed/ashamed to admit it. Like the many secret Tories across the UK.

Hilary was way ahead in the polls too and look what happened.

The polls varied in 2016. Up and down. Trump led several polls. Biden has remained steady at around 50% and Trump has barely gone above 42%. Astonishingly consistent.

Minds are made up. Biden is not Clinton. Undecided voters are more likely to vote for Biden. After the Trump debate performance they're talking around silent Democrats. Biden is winning this. He just needs three swing states and he's well ahead in several of them.

:D

these polls would do my head in, but I have been checking in on BBC News “How’s Trump doing on the polls” where they’ve got an updating list of the latest polls in the battleground states.

I was happy a month ago to see most of them going Democrat, but now they are ALL polling Democrat except Texas (which Trump won by 9%) now with only 3% in it

:D

I despise Pete Booty but that was a scream.

you can tell he's ONE OF US* from his penchant for DROPPING BOMBS.

*in sexuality terms only

I have never heard of the American @Soldiarity party. Apparently they are fiscally centre-left :emoji_handshake: but socially centre-right :poo:
