he's here in Denmark. he used to work for SAS itself, quit and took a major client with him, lasted about a year till they ended the contract and trained someone in-house instead. took a more generalist job in the field but quit that as well and wants to get sassy (:eyes:) again. I reckon he's looking internationally...

I'm just hoping he makes it soon so he can begin making millions again and buy me lavish dinners
 


Telling that the answer is focused on what a circuit breaker would be, rather than if it would be used at all.

We also found out there will be a four nations call this afternoon on new measures and that the Scottish Cabinet would decide tomorrow morning what actions to take. I imagine rUK will have similar timings.

As someone barely scraping together a living (and constantly under threat) in IT and could've done better than this when I was about 8, it frustrates me no end that people who can barely operate a mouse are being given billions of pounds to look after something vital for the nation's health :(

I don’t think it is sustainable to keep all working age adults in a position where they have to socially distance indefinitely? If for no other reason, the service economy cannot be expected to continue operating under-capacity forever (and also the birth rate would FALL THROUGH THE FLOOR in a few years?!).

That said, I can see a scenario where vulnerable people have had a vaccine, they state that social distancing is no longer necessary and the economy returning to “normal” - alongside a big comms push basically telling 18-50 year olds to get out there. However, without a vaccine, lots of people are going to feel really uneasy about doing that.

At the risk of basically live blogging the Scottish Government, looks like we'll be finding out about tighter restrictions tomorrow afternoon, and again, I imagine everywhere else will end up quite similar.

I am quite disgruntled at the idea of them essentially leaving the masses under fifty to fare for themselves. I can't see it going down very well, surely there will be a lot of miffed people if/when they try and fess up about that. I agree that many won't feel like returning to pre-Covid behaviour in such circumstances.

That said I suspect I may end up getting offered the vaccine eventually, at work we are encouraged to have the flu jab whatever staff group we are in, patient facing or not.
 
I am fine with not being on the vaccine hit list. If half of people are vaccinated leading to lower spread and my risk personal risk is low, then let's just get on with it and I'm fine with that.
 
Yes similarly I don’t see the big deal and I certainly wasn’t under any illusion of being first in the vaccine queue anyway.

Of course younger people are at risk of serious illness but surely the percentage chance is so small - is there much of a difference to flu in those stats? Nobody finds it perverse that the entire population isn’t vaccinated for that.

Besides, only about 60% of the population needs to be immune for it to eventually die out anyway, and while that sounded horrifying in March coming from the government suggesting we just let it run wild, when vaccines are taken into account surely it’s just a sensible statistic.
 
I mean, it really depends what the risk is following mass vaccination of the over 50s and the vulnerable. Sure, if that essentially halts transmission or cuts virus rates down to near negligible figures then great but I don’t know enough about the science to know whether that would be the case or whether young people just have to deal because the risk to us of dying or experiencing serious health problems as a result of having the virus is low.

I don’t feel like enough is known about “long COVID” to conclude that young people are basically fine - I really don’t want to become a chronically sick statistic just because the Government has jumped to conclusions about the long term health impacts of a relatively new virus.

I certainly don't expect to be anywhere near the front of the queue. But given that I live with people classed as vulnerable (both age and other factors) and one of them has needle-phobia, I kind of want to be vaccinated eventually as a "belt and braces" thing to protect them.

The only caveat that I need more info on, is someone was saying since it's a vaccine that more "tames it" than "kills it", it might mean that we're still infectious. In which case the idea of only giving it to the most vulnerable makes sense, as everyone else would have the "alarm bells" of symptoms and know to isolate. But I really want to see something by someone like John Campbell rather than believing what some assertive redditor said.
 
I know we're all squabbling to get to the front of the queue, but is there actually going to be a vaccine when we get there? :D

Anyway, surely the most pragmatic thing is to give it to NHS staff and the vulnerable. And fuck the rest of us.
 
We are just heading back home now after a fabulous few days away. Has Nicola announced anything today? I am hearing lockdown from Friday via a friend who is a landlady of a pub that is likely to close if we get another lockdown. :(

Oh no. The hospitality sector is really dying on its feet. Pubs are really looking like they will soon be a thing of the past. I have family who were doing exceptionally well with restaurants in Edinburgh but they can’t survive another lockdown. So, so sad. :(
 
I know people staying alive is a lot more important before anyone tries to SHOOT ME DOWN IN FLAMES.

Is closing pubs and restaurants not another lockdown?
 
We just got an email telling us we now have to wear masks at all times, not just when we're away from our desks. I think it might be time for me to lose the beard :(

According to a VERY RELIABLE SOURCE (the snu) she has confirmed a circuit breaker. I don’t know WHEN or WHERE but she’s confirmed to A SOURCE, somewhere. :o
