This is more of less boiling down to, 'you can go to work but fun is banned'. And, based on past performance, we'll get it in England in about a week, so that's something to look forward to.
 
I’ll tell you what, I’ll SLOG MY GUTS OUT IN WORK with all manner of PPE and be in contact with HUNDREDS of people every day.

But I can’t have a fucking drink with my friends or family at the weekend.

how can they possibly? it's tough enough as is and now they can only sell sparkling water and packets of crisps?

even posh restaurants rely heavily on profits off drinks. it seems a bit Victorian that you can't even have a glass of wine

a curfew without restricting alcohol sales (coupled with working from home) seems to have had a positive effect on numbers here. why go full on prohibition? :confused:

Presumably because Danes can have a nice social time without degrading into drunken morons.

it could be said that our drinking habits are likely very similar, especially among the younger generations and that a curfew in itself would curb some of that baboonic vigor

but I won't argue with your first-hand experience :)
 
Honestly if this is all leading to prohibition because [scary graph tracking daily alcohol related death rates] then I'm taking the boozing underground.

Meanwhile on Reddit, someone citing the 22 reinfection cases out of the 30 million in the world as evidence that immunity is impossible and that we need a full, doors-welded-shut strict lockdown and to aim for complete eradication. Because that would totally work :D

I mean I'm not one to hate on universities, but we were doing pretty good for cases here. Then universities came back in, 200+ cases there confirmed in a week, and now we are close to the watch list. Yay.
 
Did anyone really think that allowing students to go back to campus was going to ever result in anything but a clusterfuck?
 
Also I’m not sure I understand these new Scottish restrictions if I’m honest. So if I’m in Glasgow, Edinburgh or anywhere in between all pubs and restaurants are closed? But if I’m in Dundee I can get a drink until 6pm?

Pretty much. Although your drink in Dundee has to be served outdoors.
 
Actually that's not quite true. Outside of the Central Belt, pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes will be able to open indoors until 18:00 but only to serve food and non-alcoholic drinks. However, they can serve alcohol in outdoor settings until 22:00, to groups of up to six people from two different households.

It really is one of the most ridiculous and unnecessary moves in this entire saga. One can only hope that the rates will decline after the initial spread that resulted from all the students coming together from different parts of the country.

We (me and dad) braved it and I hope this wasn't a fatally stupid idea. His prompt, but he'll have known I was kind hoping to have a look out.

On the plus side, it was the most socially distanced I've ever seen it. We were chatting from far corners of the room that must have been at least 3m apart, couple of people in each corner.

On the negative, we both had a notification pop up while in there: "Possible Covid-19 exposure logged", the infamous one that just friggin disappears when you tap on it. On Googling, it seems this means you got in bluetooth range of someone who's tested positive (bluetooth LE range can be up to 100m or even 400m away) and the app will tell you in a second notification you can't miss/ignore if the top secret algorithm considers it a risky enough encounter that you have to isolate. Well, mostly secret, apparently the main driver is <2m for 15 minutes.

I trust the people we were 'near'. There's at least one person who was the other end of the pub (a good 6-7m+) who I wouldn't put it past to test positive and then just go in regardless though. But I don't know if the notification means "exposure was right now" or "exposure was days ago" (maybe we were driving somewhere). It tells you nothing.

They say "if we don't give you the 'real' notification then don't worry" but that's EASIER SAID when you've been somewhere without ideal ventilation that you know was a bit of a risk, and when you don't really trust the government with their "but muh economy" to decide what constitutes a risky exposure. I want to know when, where, how long, and an estimate of distance because it's worrying the hell out of me :zombie:
 
One of the pubs back in my hometown (still one of the best experiences I have had in terms of taking it seriously and compliance with all of the rules) has decided to shut for two weeks following this ruling.

I’d like to see what the actual figures are on transmission in pubs as i’m willing to bet that a lot more is happening in school, universities and workplaces but they are determined to keep those open. Pubs are suffering because they are one of the last places that are causing transmission that Government can clamp down on without those places down.

I know everyone is going off about the students and the volume of cases but trust and believe they will have had it just the same before Summer. We just didn’t test them then.

35.From the details of interviews that have been completed as part of Test and Protect at the time of reporting, we can see that the percentage of individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19 and who have reported hospitality exposure (pubs, restaurants, cafes etc.) has been consistently over 20% in September and up to 26% in the period from the end of July to the beginning of October. All ages are included but of the 26%, half were in the 20-39 age group
