What do we think is happening in England tomorrow? The same as Scotland, or more/less strict?

The latest restrictions are going to last longer than 2 weeks, aren’t they? Why is Nicola not saying that they will be reviewed in 2 weeks though?

They have already set it out, haven’t they? They are moving to a three tier model based on the number of cases per 100,000.

Explained here: https://inews.co.uk/news/uk/lockdow...vid-19-restrictions-how-work-explained-677288
Three tiers – or alert levels – would be used to define not only what measures are enforced in certain areas, but also what the status of coronavirus transmission rates are.

Each tier would be clearly defined by the number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people, with thresholds set for a local area moving from one level to the next.

It would range from the strictest measures in areas defined as Alert Level Three, to some additional measures defined as Alert Level Two. Areas where there are no local lockdown restrictions would be defined as Alert Level Three.

According to leaked documents, Alert Level One would be the minimum restrictions in England that apply to all areas, defining areas where there is fewer than 100 cases per 100,000. This would include pub and restaurant curfews, the Rule of Six indoors and outdoors, and wearing a mask in indoor venues and shops.

Alert Level Two would have tighter restrictions, applying to areas that cannot be contained by local responses and have more than 100 cases per 100,000. Additional measures would include limiting social contact to one household inside private dwellings and in pubs and restaurants. People would be advised to work from home where they can, travel for only essential reasons, and only visit care homes in exceptional circumstances. Funerals and weddings in these areas would be reduced from 30 people to a maximum of 15.

Alert Level Three, a full local lockdown, would apply to areas that have a significantly higher rate of transmission. All of the above restrictions would apply, and no social contact would be allowed outside of your own household, while leisure and hospitality businesses would be closed and no overnight stays outside individual residences would be permitted.

I got one of those "possible exposure" alerts from the app that says I was in the vicinity of someone who has tested positive. So what do I do now, just wait to see if I start COUGHING?

The English app would clearly tell you if you need to isolate.

This seems fairly logical although I notice there is a fair bit of discretion involved in when somewhere becomes a Tier 3 case.

Also it makes it clear that there’s no ambition whatsoever to actually get the numbers down. Reading between the lines, everywhere is a Tier 1 location until it gets so out of control it has to be Tier 2.

I had that on Weds. Still okay so far TOUCH WOOD

It means you've been within bluetooth range at some point which can be up to 400m away. There's a bunch of clever stuff that works out whether you were likely to have been within 2m for 15 minutes and need to self isolate, or if you just happened to drive past someone's house. It doesn't give you any information to let you decide for yourself where in between those extremes your exposure sits, so all you can really do is stay alert for symptoms which most of us are doing all the time anyway.

It's not meant to show the "possible exposure" notification as this just causes needless anxiety, but because our country couldn't run a piss up in a brewery... welp.

Expecting to get another notification soon myself as when I nipped to Barrow for shopping yesterday there were people with bad sounding coughs EVERYWHERE. Gave them all a wide berth.

So apparently Liverpool are heading for tier 3 lockdown

:kim:

Some of the speculation in the papers is pretty wild. There's even a suggestion that Johnson wants to be very strict because he's tired of looking like he's following Sturgeon's lead. Add to that the usual speculation about crashing the economy now so that Brexit doesn't get the blame (which, let's face it, was floating around in March) and it could go anywhere today.

This drip drip of information leaking things to the press over the weekend really depresses me.
I’d rather they just say what they are doing with little warning. I’d been planning to see my family end of October and thought of that was keeping me going but now have to live in LIMBO. It’s just cruel and heartless. No household mixing in Manchester since JULY watching the rest of the country go about normal business

I mean all drip feeding it over the weekend does is cause MORE people to go out at the weekend and get really twatted whilst they still can.
Well that should be obvious but clearly not to them as they are a bunch of psychopaths

Thankfully not. There's lag but since it's mostly young people at the moment rather than care homes, deaths aren't rocketing. Some hospitals in hotspots are seeing pressure though so that's a worry.

What I want to avoid is the transmission route of kid -> parent who comes to work -> me -> my parents, as they would still be at significant risk as the virus itself hasn't changed and the current approved treatments haven't changed much (still just dexamethosone which slightly improves chances on a ventilator and remdisivir which just speeds up the survival/death process). Currently due to social distancing the risk of that is fairly manageable - it'd be a lot harder without it and just letting it spread

Nightingale hospitals on standby in Manchester and other hotspots

Tougher local measures definitely needed, but with financial support so that businesses don't gurn so much.

Yeah the deaths are still to come. Remember that some people that die in hospitals from this have been ill for like 5/6 weeks sometimes.

I live really close to one of the nightingales and driving past today it looked like a lot was going on/people moving stuff in. So over this shit man. Hoping my area is not included in tier 3.

The Rishi comments about retraining if you have a job in the arts obviously didn’t go down very well with the theatre community, so with that in mind, this campaign might be seen as a BIT of a misstep...

When will they learn not to piss off a large group of people who have nothing better to do right now than rant on social media and crave validation?!

We have more people in hospital in the UK now than we did in March? IS THIS TRUE??

Before we went into lockdown in March, yes. Although it is important to remember that since then, doctors have learnt a lot more about Covid and what the most effective methods of treatment are.

This is so tone-deaf and insulting! :gross:

:D:D:D

Surely this is FAKE?!

I suppose that would make sense, as I don’t think it PEAKED in March, did it? Yes, I understand we are more advanced now so hopefully deaths shouldn’t be as high as first time round.

I worry for Fatima’s posture when she’s hunchbacked over a database learning to code

This actually seems fairly sensible so far. Getting tough, without the sheer ruin of a second national lockdown. Don't know if it's enough without closing schools, but it's worth a shot at least.
