I'm thinking it might be an allowance for the universities, which is pretty much entirely where the increase is located.
 
Pubs being allowed to open in Liverpool if they "act as a restaurant".

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has been trying to clear this confusion up.

He told radio station LBC a pasty on its own doesn't count but if you stick a salad or chips on the plate with it, you could be all right.

"If you would expect to go into that restaurant normally, or pub, and order a plated meal at the table of a Cornish pasty with chips or side salad or whatever it comes with, then that's a normal meal," he explained.

Because in 2020 we can't keep an active dataset updated at the weekends. Data goes to church or something.
 
By the sounds of things it was literally on one spreadsheet in whatever department is dealing with it, who don't do weekends clearly. No wonder they changed the methodology.

Considering Cummings was behind such an abuse of data that he won Brexit it's extraordinary really.
 
If they don’t want people drinking why did they not just go down the same route as Scotland and stop all inside alcohol sales in hospitality?

The showbiz desk at the Sun does seem like a fast track to the big jobs, doesn't it? Andy Coulson, Dominic Mohan, Victoria Newton... they all ended up editing either the Sun or NOTW (DEAD) (lol not really).
 
He also has a fairly successful shock jock radio show in the style of Farage, not sure if on any radio station but for sure on YouTube where this type of scum THRIVES.
 
Apparently a two week closure of schools from either next week or the week after is likely in NI.

Dreading it but whatever helps.
 
There is discussion tonight of London moving to tier 2. I feel like areas that have their risk level heightened basically never go back down again so i’m quietly dreading this.

Out of the 20 areas that went into the extra measures since June, 19 are still in.

I’d be very surprised if a) it made much of a difference or b) people actually heeded any of the extra restrictions that Tier 2 would bring.

Then again, this morning it’s been speculated that some of the surge in London cases was down to ANOTHER Excel “quirk” whereby loads of students are still registered by their home addresses. So it might not get worse enough quickly enough to move to Tier 2 this week.
 
On a personal note, for the second time in a month, one of my flatmates is having to self-isolate because someone in one of their seminars has now tested positive. They don’t have symptoms and I think the risk is pretty low (they apparently sit distanced AND wear masks in seminars). I don’t technically have to self-isolate with them because they have no symptoms but I feel it is only right to share the situ with anyone I have plans with over the next week and a half out of courtesy so they can make up their own mind about whether they still want to hang out.

No. I would only suggest that we do this if any of us have symptoms or a positive test (which they CAN’T GET because they don’t have symptoms) but honestly keeping anyone totally separate is really difficult in a shared flat.

I have now discovered that the seminar in question was last Tuesday so mercifully we have less than a week more of this.

Apologies if I come off as petulant, it’s just that, as I stated above, this is the second time this has happened in a month. And at least last time my flatmate could get a test pretty much immediately because they are a key worker so we didn’t just ... have to live in limbo.

Worth noting that in both instances, it has been work or education that has contributed towards my flatmates being exposed to the virus and not irresponsible socialising or the like. I suspect these settings are fuelling the majority of transmission, to be honest.

I just chose to stay in when something similar happened to me. I just couldn't be arsed with the social admin.
 
My friend had to wait FIVE DAYS for a test result for their kid, so all 5 of the family had to self isolate, including one teacher for the entire time. Turns out it was tonsillitis, but its no wonder people are walking around spreading shit, so many people can't afford 5 days of SSP

It’s difficult to say though - obviously I don’t know your flatmate’s exact circumstances but I presume most people’s network of work colleagues or classmates are larger than their social circles, so there will be much more chance of someone they know in those situations catching it, leading to mass instructions to self-isolate.

What we don’t know is how their classmate caught it in the first place, or whether anybody else in the seminar now has it. I agree that those settings are resulting in most enforced isolations, but actual transmissions? Who knows!
