I was looking at a map of cases the other day. Why is the south / south west so low? (Devon/dorset/cornwall area).

Considering the amount of tourists coming to the Isle of Wight every day I'm surprised our cases aren't higher :confused:

Presumably generally because of low population density, not many universities and factory work.

That and people around there aren't friendly and don't like to be near each other anyway.

I remember there was an article in one of the papers speculating that the southwest would be hardest hit by the second wave due to all the staycationers, but it doesn't seem to have happened, at least yet.

Bristol is still below the national average as well (120 cases per 100k, against 147), and we have a large student population, who as I posted yesterday were responsible for over three quarters of all positive tests last week. So presumably the prevalence of it outside of the student population is very low.
 
My brothers step daughter is at uni in Bath. Her first year. Their halls have got it and she's not allowed out for 2 weeks.

I wondered if it made a difference that there's a lot of open space in the south west and iow so a lot of staycationers are just going for walks and not mixing with people much.

When we went to Devon all we did was walk. And avoid people.

My local city farm has been open again a little while. I may go for an afternoon of pig fingering :disco:

Although it would mean diverting the big shop to ASDA, and I'm not sure I've got the stomach for that.

INNIT. When I was dating that VILE VICIOUS MISERABLE CUNT Mr Navy, he refused point blank to set foot in there and I thought he was ridiculous but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve agreed with him more and more.

Just on the Asda front, not on much else, the INSUFFERABLE PRICK.

Reading comments from friends in the northwest particularly on Facebook and the like (@Floppet's being the latest, but certainly not the only one over the last week or two), I have to say on the whole people do seem to be a lot more compliant with face masks around these parts. I was on the bus in and out of town earlier and then in a few shops, and I could count the number of adults I saw not wearing a mask on one hand.

I get a bit twitchy when there are more than about six people on the bus. Luckily I'm on a quiet route, I see much busier buses going past. I don't know why people insist on sitting in the aisle seat though.

I was pleased the other day when the driver ordered a woman off until her face was covered who got on waving a mask around saying she would put it on once she sat down.

It's infuriating! In the flats opposite one of the residents (my age) is severely epileptic, he's lovely but his mental age is that of a young teenager so we all keep an eye out for him because the alcoholic weirdo in the other flat takes advantage of him (sends him to the shop for beer and then won't give him the money for it) which upsets him. He wears his mask every time he leaves his flat, even when he came to put the bins out on Thursday night. The people not wearing masks are the ones who you'd assume would probably breeze through Covid if they caught it, young and fit men and women.

I don't know whether they don't believe the virus is as bad as we're being told it is, they just don't care about other people or whether they believe it's a scamdemic or plandemic which I've heard a lot of conspiracy theories about these last couple of weeks.

Even my boss came out with "... those idiots who think they should be shielding from it should just stay home and fucking shield again and let the rest of us get on with our lives as normal." on Thursday. It was clearly a dig aimed at me, the only "shielder" in the office, because I'd just said I thought going up to Tier 3 wouldn't be unreasonable and the restrictions were only so that the hospitals could continue with normal hospital stuff and don't get overrun with Covid patients again. She then went on a rant about how there are only 19 people with it in Bolton Hospital, it's no worse than getting a bad cold, and all this curtailing of our freedoms is ridiculous when ... and then came the shielding comment. So I just slunk back to my own office and left them to continue their discussions without me.
 
What kind of absolute cunt takes advantage of someone mentally vulnerable :/

Most people I know are taking it seriously or at least respecting other people's desire to take it seriously, but then I am a reasonable judge of character and don't tend to be around the "screw everyone else" kind of people much.

The exception being at work where no one gives a toss, so I avoid them and help them over the phone (despite their huffing and puffing at the refusal to "just come and have a look")
 
I find it bad at work too. I'm trying to direct people so we keep our distance but they just come right into your space. People touching everything, trying things on and putting them back without cleaning. People shouting because they're waiting in a queue outside. One random man patted me on the arm the other day, it made me feel so uncomfortable.
 
We've all been (kinda) sent back home this week - or at the very least been given the option to work from home if possible, which is really quite reassuring.

My county's been doing really quite well until Sunday last week and then we rocketed from 20 cases per 100,000 to 150. Got another COVID test on Friday (which came back negative this morning thank fuck) because I gotta go to the hospital for a check up on Tuesday. It's not mandatory to get a test but I feel better going into a hospital knowing I haven't had close contact to anyone and with a negative test result. The surge in cases over here during the past 10 days has made me super anxious. Still not as bad as in many other countries but not far off, taking everything into consideration. What a mess.

I would definitely had taken a test too!

I went to Germany this summer (remember travelling? :() which turned out to be a little drill as we hadn't yet introduced masks here. it was all very orderly

He really is a vile excuse for a human being. He's alcohol dependent, 50, has never worked and everything always has to be centred around him. He gets drunk and gobshites out of his flat window to passers-by then rings the police and says those people are harassing him. The council installed CCTV above his window because of it. The vulnerable resident (J from this point) tries to keep him out of his flat because he steals his things or money whenever he goes in there. One night another resident from the next block (there are two blocks of four flats) heard vile shouting at J and it turned out that J had been to the shop for him and bought him 12 cans of beer and vile was refusing to give J the money for them so it turned into a big altercation and the police were called. It isn't unusual that there's an ambulance at his flat when I get up in the morning, he'll drink for most of the night and then ring 999 and say he's going to commit suicide. When I got home from work on Thursday evening I was getting my work bag out of the boot and vile shouted me from his window so I just turned round and shouted across "alright vile", he shouted "Floppet can you come over now?!" so I said no, I'd just got in from work and had some stuff to do. Then he shouted could I come over tomorrow then because he needed to talk to me, something important that he had to tell me, so I shouted back that I was at work again tomorrow, what was up? His reply was to shout "oh fuck off then, you don't fucking care what I want anyway" and slammed his window shut. Got up on Friday morning and there was an ambulance outside again.

I've dealt with this type of behaviour from him for five years now and in the beginning I used to go over because I thought that if somebody treated him decently it might help him overcome some of his problems but he's actually really creepy and it was mostly a ruse for a variation of telling me he fancies me, would he ever have a chance because I'm his type and trying to get handsy with me. He knows I'm married and it got really uncomfortable so I gave up going over there after a particularly bad episode at 9am on a Saturday morning about three years ago when I'd just got home from dropping off Mr F at work. I'm civil with him and that's it, I would like to beat seven colours of shit out of him but his CCTV is always watching :D
 
Are Scotland reopening pubs to sell alcohol a week on Monday? She has not said it was up for review, and clearly stated they will open again on the 26th October when she announced it. :confused:
