My work is still pressing ahead with our team development day, which is some outdoor retreat in Somerset. In November. Apparently it will all be socially distanced, although they are suggesting people car share which doesn't seem wise.

The current restrictions drop off automatically after 2 weeks, which would be a week today. However, parliament is going to consider further restrictions next week so it they may not be open for long, and ministers I believe have the power to extend the restrictions without a parliamentary vote so that could happen too.

Which is a long way of saying, no I don't really know the answer.

To reopen again now just seems like such an odd move to me as numbers are still going up significantly.
 
They won’t open. And I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s even further restrictions.

On the briefing today, she has said that when they publish their next plan later this week, they will also outline what restrictions will apply from Monday and if whether they will apply locally or nationally. So yeah, pubs, especially in the central belt, may not open at all.
 
Wales locked down then, which means I don’t have to go into my office for at least three weeks.

Ireland expected to go back to level 5. Announcement tonight.

People will only be able to exercise within 5km (3 miles) of their homes
People will be able to meet up outdoors with one other household away from their home for the likes of exercise, within the 5km limit
Many non-essential shops and hairdressers will have to close
Bars and restaurants will only be able to provide a takeaway service
The number of wedding guests permitted will remain at 25 until the end of the year
Schools will remain open
Sporting events, including GAA inter-county championships and horse racing, can take place.
 
Level 5 announced. My work won't be closing but it'll be interesting to see how we operate when customers are only allowed travel within a 5km radius of their home.
 
Mr L has been on the phone to his Welsh family and they have agreed to cancel Christmas.

Firstly - a bit premature I think.

Secondly, with him working from home, WHEN THE FUCK AM I MEANT TO GET THE HOUSE TO MYSELF FOR ONCE? :evil:
 
6 weeks will take us to 2nd of December and hopefully it will mean that Ireland can enjoy Christmas with family and friends, and pubs and restaurants can fill their pockets over a busy December.
 
Not only more logical and prioritising those who need the greatest level of care, but more economical. Bonkers.
 
What are the numbers like here? I thought they’d stabilised over the past couple of weeks after it went tits up in Hulme?
 
Cases stabilised and started dropping. Beds are filling up but treatments seem to be working, so the main issue on that front would be other care, but again better shielding would go some way to reduce that.
 
Minor shitstorm brewing in Northern Ireland after former DUP health minister Edwin Poots (of “Arlene Foster’s most important role is that of a wife, mother and daughter” and “my view is that the earth is a young earth...around 4000BC” fame) has claimed that Covid is 6 times more prevalent among the Nationalist community.

Oh goody I can’t wait to see how this goes. :disco:

I mean, if there is indeed something in this, it’s probably more likely to do with the socio-economic conditions than them being a nationalist.

I honestly can’t see a way they will let me back into Scotland for Christmas unless there is another lockdown in England. End of Dec is less than ten weeks away and we’re in a dire state cases wise. The tier model just doesn’t bring cases down.
 
I hope I won’t have to smuggle myself into Wales for Xmas with my family :evil:
 
I’d actually quite like to spend one Christmas in London away from the family. I’ve seen them a lot over the summer as I kind of expect to be stuck down here at the end of the year.
 
Where does Moopy stand on the issue of lockdowns. Do we think it is a necessary evil or a useless way of handling the pandemic?

I’m sure it’s been discussed to death in here but a poll should be added.
 
Absolutely not against them used correctly. I think the first one in the UK was necessary but too late. I don't think we'd need them with instant testing, tracking and tracing. As it is, I'd support a small one now like Wales if it meant getting shit in order, but that's not whats happening.

How stringently is this being enforced? I imagine most venues will be happy to pretend? I have 3 lunches this week I’d rather not sit outside for.

Totally. Defined start and end. We’ve effectively been in (slightly stricter than) tier 2 since the end of July with no end in sight.
 
The majority of the public favour a circuit breaker, don't they? I wonder how that breaks down by area, depending on what restrictions you've been subjected to.
 
Is a 2 week circuit breaker long enough to keep things at bay until Christmas? I’m not sure. I personally think what Ireland are doing is the most sensible at the moment, but obviously that comes with its own problems.
