Spooky spooky Thursday

HAVE WE ALL JUST GIVEN UP?

I awoke at half 5, by half 6 I decided to give up trying to go back to sleep and make myself a coffee, only to discover I accidentally bought BEANS instead of ground coffee. I was furious and had to have a wank to calm me down and kill time till the shop opened at 7. Anyway in the office now and sincerely want to go back to BED.

Having a wee stress about the covid test we need to take before our holibobs. It needs to be 72 hours before we fly on Monday, so that's tomorrow, but we also need to actually get the tests to the lab AND get the results, which "should" be a 24-hour turnaround, but no guarantees of course. So we need to arrange a courier for next day delivery. And the lab's in Northern Ireland because Tischy didn't read the website correctly. And the lab's closed on Sunday, so we need the results either on Saturday or Monday morning. It's all a bit of a logistical nightmare.

Secretly hoping the country goes into lockdown while we're away so I never have to come back. :)

Are you able to do these new Boots ones if need be?

The worst case scenario is actually not terrible. We get screened when we land and have to isolate in our hotel till we get the results and I assume there's a fee. We'd have just wasted quite a lot of money on the kits if that happens.

ME AS A DOG.

That dog looks a bit like its got it's jaws locked around that post at first glance.

Wait is Lucille suggesting he's an impaled puppy?

MORNING

I got a slight bit tipsy last night on homebrew and facebook messaged a very distant American relative to introduce myself. I am not proud of this.
DID THEY REPLY? My Ancestry research has led me to do some Facebook stalking of second and more distant cousins I've never met, but I'm worried they'll think I'm a weirdo if I get in touch.

I'm especially intrigued by the PERFORMANCE ARTISTE from SOUTHEND, he looks fun.

Oh @Tisch I was just looking at Madeira yesterday! (had a vague idea about going for NYE) I read that the test on arrival is free and you get results within 12 hours, so you just have to self-isolate until then.

I honestly wish we hadn't thought ahead and just done this, instead of paying over the odds for tests that we not even get back in time! I think we're just worried about not getting on the plane.

I recommend Madeira Kate! It's chilled and rather lovely.

Yep! They did. My thought was that Americans love to know what country their ancestors come from, but she didn't seem to care too much. Friendly enough, though.

We are something like 6th cousins though. Same great great great great grandfather, or something.

I'm sure I had 6th cousins at my wedding, that's pretty close family for us

What a stupid system though. Surely it’s a much bigger concern that you could catch something on the plane or in the airport so what use are results from before you leave the country?

To prove you're not entering the country with symptoms I suppose? But then if they're happy to test you when you get there anyway I also don't see the point.

And what even happens if it's positive? If you're not in the country yet I assume you can't fly, and if you are you have to self-quarantine at your nice hotel for two weeks? So surely anyone with a positive result just wouldn't tell them? :eyes:

I don't know, it's all GUBBINS.

"All passengers who, when disembarking, carry a negative PCR test for COVID-19, carried out within 72 hours prior to boarding, in laboratories certified by national or international authorities, can proceed to their destination.
On the other hand, passengers who have not undergone PCR testing at their location of origin will do so upon arrival at the airport, then proceed to their destination where they must wait for an estimated period of 12h, in confinement, to receive the result.
In the exceptional cases of refusal to carry out the test upon arrival, passengers may choose to 1) fulfill voluntary isolation, for a period of 14 days, at their home or at the hotel where they are staying, and if the accommodation is less than 14 days, the confinement will cover the duration of the accommodation period; or 2) return to the destination of origin or any other destination outside the territory of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, fulfilling, until the time of the flight, isolation at home or in the hotel establishment where he/she is staying. In these cases, the accommodation costs will be borne by the traveller.
If the passenger has a positive PCR test result, he must comply with mandatory confinement, compulsively if necessary, for a period of 14 days, in a health establishment, in his/her home or in a hotel establishment, upon decision of the competent health authorities."

HMMMM just had a funny meeting at work where I was told I will not be taking a pay cut YET.
