Serious question - I know that Trump has talked about standing again in 2024 which obviously won't happen because he'll be dead by August but there was always talk of either Donald Jr or Ivanka being next in the "dynasty". Does that have potential? Will Trump's "brand" prove enduring enough?

Some of the 2024 polling has already suggested the voters are less receptive to the Trump spawn running for the presidency. It’s Donnie Snr they love. I wonder if Donnie Jr would run as an independent though?

I can’t imagine the Republicans will want to get in bed with the Trumps again quite so soon. Especially after the last 24 hours.

The problem is Donald Snr has left an indelible mark on the party. There are quite a few Trumpers and QAnon supporters who’ve just been elected so the party is likely to be more extreme for the foreseeable future.
 
I feel so relieved and happy - both @HerSereneHighnessAnniFrid and I had a physical reaction to this on Wednesday where we both felt sick with worry. But the work Lauren put in in 2017 has paid off and finally the world is telling the Trump monster that we don’t want to hear his LIES

Well, this is it - he should, by rights, be remembered as the most toxic and ineffectual President in living memory, worse than Reagan and, once the orange dust settles, they should be trying to move forwards. If it is the Cult of Donald and it doesn't transfer to any of his craven spawn, then all to the good because I never want to see any of them ever again, unless it's in a snuff movie.

I did see that a major QAnon supported had been elected. I mean, how the hell is that going to pan out? What is she actually going to do?

Re Trump 2024 - I think there’s a very good chance ex-President Trump will be indicted by the state of New York in Q1 2021 for tax fraud.

I’m not convinced about the financial health of the Trump organisation either.

Urgh. 10-15 mins, but only 20,000 votes to be announced. It won’t be enough - we’ll have to wait for hours more for the rest

I think most senior Republicans are going to be choosing their words very carefully, Mitch McConnell is a prime example of what I expect the party line to be.



So not *directly* contradicting or calling-out Trump, but also not directly in line with his (insane) claims.

Ultimately, there is zero legal basis for declaring all the mail-in votes invalid, and Biden is now leading in so many places that getting to discount a few here or there is unlikely to make any difference. There's a chance the Supreme Court could make an impact on Philadelphia, but it's a huge ask given the likely margin when this is all over, and the way things are going the Democrats won't even need it to reach the 270 threshold.

I expect most of the GOP see the writing on the wall, but they also know Trump is their single greatest asset. They need him to help drum up support to rescue their Senate majority when the Georgia run-offs go to the polls, and some will absolutely see a Trump as a potential candidate for 2024. So they won't want to burn their bridges entirely.
