Kylie - Disco (album 15)

Unless it's signed inside and then they shrink wrapped it after. Which I doubt.
 
Say Something really towers above everything so far, as listenable as it's all been.
 
I'm going to return it. I don't want the standard version otherwise.
 
My mistake - it IS signed on the booklet inside. I didn't imagine they really WOULD shrinkwrap it after she signed them.
 
And mine is in great condition. But the packaging really is flimsy as fuck.

A TRUSTED source has told me that some are reporting the cd has been signed on the inside of the booklet and then sealed. So yours could be signed!
 
I think her website were doing a different version of the deluxe weren’t they (like the Golden book)? Wish I had just gone for that now.

The cardboard case really is so poorly designed. It's open both ends and in the middle, so both inlay and CD can fall out easily when you pick it up, and slide backwards and forwards when it's open. Cheap as fuck!

Thank Kylie I'll only be streaming it anyway!
 
Nice that she's brought the Golden dancers back in these trying times though.

I wasn't paying full attention as I was cooking and cleaning at the same time, but I can't say I heard it.
 
I've listened to the whole thing once, but it took a while since I had to play Dance Floor Darling on repeat in the middle

On first listen, Magic, Miss A Thing, Real Groove, Last Chance, and Dance Floor Darling are my favorites. There's nothing I dislike though, and I'm sure others will continue to grow.
 
I've just had my first play through. As I said, not really concentrating on it fully and only through the speaker on my tablet, but nothing really jumped out at me as :disco: so far. I liked it all though. And nothing impressed me less than Magic when I first heard it. It did all kind of melt into one a bit, but I expect that's at least partly due to the nature of the listen.

Off for a walk as it's gloriously sunny here, so I'll get my good headphones out and give it another go.

Tbf this is probably about right. It doesn't in any way invalidate Kylie's effort though.

And that said, Say Something is probably my favourite song from any of those four albums, closely followed by Remember Where You Are :disco:

I would call it for Jessie too, although Future Nostalgia is probably my AOTY. But Jessie certainly nailed the disco brief the best. Roisin's album is a totally different kind of disco from Jessie's, which really illustrates my point about how much room Kylie had to play with here, and how narrow the end result feels.

ANYWAY I'm about to give this a proper play through for the first time instead of cherry picking so let's see how it SHAPES UP
 
Say Something aside, Dancefloor Darling is THE ONE. Just a fucking pity it isn't longer.
 
Looking at that list of four albums (and again after only one listen of Disco under less than ideal conditions), the one thing that seems apparent to me is that the other three were clearly more ambitious.

I'm still not sure about Unstoppable. I recognise the influences in it but it's just a bit jarring. I like the last bit in the chorus I guess.

Oh yeah I agree; I didn't mean that to invalidate her at all. I think this will go down as one Kylie's best albums of the year, but the other 3 are career-defining (or 2nd best of their career in Róisín's case) imo

Agreed! I listen to Future Nostalgia more, but Jessie's album is BETTER, I think.

And it brings me back to Rufus Wainwright and his quote again.

She is what she is and there is no attempt to make quasi-intellectual statements to substantiate it

I think the same is true of this album.

Isn't this what I was called out over on here when I initially expressed my concern? And now everyone ELSE is complaining about it! :D

I lowered my expectations and this album has hit home for me. In the realm of Kylie's nu disco and electro pop albums Fever and Aphrodite, this is a far more successful outing. I prefer it to both of them.
