Kylie - Disco (album 15)

I'm not complaining about it. She's Kylie. I never expected anything else. It's just that I'm only in a position to comment now I've heard it.
 
The bonus tracks don't really do much for me, although "Till You Love Somebody" has potential to bop.

Absolutely. In the hands of other lesser artists a lot of these songs would sound crass. Her voice lifts this record. No one else does joy quite like she does.
 
Though that being said some people are complaining about Miss A Thing lacking an exuberant vocal but I absolutely love the sleepiness of it.

I just played Last Chance to Mr L without telling him of the VV comparison (although I had mentioned reported Abba ones), and he immediately starting singing the VV chorus over the Last Chance one :D

Absolutely! Golden notwithstanding, she sounds more invested on this album (vocally at the least) than any other record since Light Years and that may or may not have something to do with the fact that she is singing her own lyrics. I might prefer Body language and X but that’s a personal preference.
 
well call me crazy but having spent a whole two days with this album it seems a BIT premature to be naming it her best in the last SIX ATTEMPTS (never mind the issue of whether it actually IS or not) (WHICH IT ISN'T)

What’s Your Pleasure is probably my favourite album of the year but you do sort of get the impression that it was a collective effort in terms of source material and influences. Jessie Ware wasn’t alive during disco’s hey day. She doesn’t have that visceral connection to it. Whereas whilst Kylie’s might sound more derivative, she has absolutely mined her childhood influences and inspirations (much as she did on Body Language in fact) and this is a highly reverential record as a result without turning into a pastiche or parody.

I agree that it would have benefitted from a softer moment though.

Well I already stated that I prefer Body Language and X so your point is moot.
 
I'd have been well up for something with a kind of Native New Yorker vibe. But I'm very much here for what we have got, not what we haven't.
 
It's wrapped up in a huge amount of nostalgia for me. But as our recent relisten proved, it is in fact a GREAT album. An absolute classic of the last two decades - perhaps the quintessential electropop record of that time. So I'm afraid I CANNOT AGREE.

It just so happens that Kylie has nostalgia for the campier and kitschier elements of :disco: and has largely based the sound of her record around them. I’m not sure why anyone was expecting anything different to be honest (though admittedly, at the start, with the release of Say Something, I was).
 
it's not a question or being camp or kitsch. I love camp and kitsch. Light Years is by far the campiest, kitschiest record of her career and it's my #2.

go down that road by all means - there are more sophisticated ways of doing it.

:eyes: Says the person who prefers cheese fest Magic to the frankly sublime Say Something.
 
I played this just now whilst finishing my day working from home and found it a little high pitched, frantic and annoying to be honest and had to turn it down by track 5. However, I accept it wasn’t the best setting to listen to it and will play it later when at the gym. I was hoping for something a little more “intelligent” sounding.

I love how Kylie's HOUSE is listed as "Infinite Disco" in the credits! :D

It seems that Magic and Spotlight were the only two songs conpleteled before lockdown.
