I dont remember the last time I played this album in its entirety
 
Autoamerican is very post-modern. A total HODGE-PODGE.

I love the intro, building up to that poem about cars. J. G. Ballard WHO?
 
"Live it Up" was intended as a single, I believe, and was a missed opportunity. Love the rock elements against the disco flourishes.

In a 2020 interview with American Songwriter, to mark the 40th anniversary of the album, Chris Stein revealed the intended title was "Coca Cola" as it sounded very American, but Coke said no to the idea.

not the most memorable SONG but I am loving the SLINKY DISCO VIBE.
 
"Here's Looking at You" would've fit better near the end of the album, but for ages I despised it. I quite like it now.

For a good few years I managed to successfully convince Mr L I preferred the Atomic Kitten version.
 
"The Tide is High" - the song that made Atomic Kitten famous :eyes: Believe it or not, this wasn't a Blondie original either. This is obviously the definitive version.

I love 'Here's Looking at You' :disco: I could totally see Debbie playing some Jessica Rabbit-esque gangster's moll.

But I definitely see how it would make sense further down the track list.

the production on this album so far is really delightful. I've always loved the SUMMERY BURSTS of BRASS fluttering in and out on The Tide is High.

I've already decided I'm going to dive into Bite by Altered Images for more shimmering Mike Chapman (and Tony Visconti) goodness after this listen.
 
"Angels on the Balcony" is the kind of song that could've been a huge hit later in the decade, I'm convinced, maybe in a ratpack movie. The guitar riff/ chorus is so uplifting.

OBSESSED with this WARM SURF VIBE! quite a FEEL GOOD RECORD so far.
 
I always forget about "Go Through It". Perhaps a bit been there/done that but very good. The brass is a nice touch.

Go Through It feels like it belongs in an old Western movie. It's a very cinematic album.
 
"Do the Dark" another missed single opportunity. Her vocals do the disco genre so well.

The keyboards/synths/whatever in "Do the Dark" are so SEXY :disco:

VERY much enjoying this pulsating disco-rock moment of whatever. it's giving me a bit of Stevie Nicks for some reason.
 
Such an effortless classic. Has a female pop star ever sounded so cool?
