ADORE the Schitt's Sweep. But I'd like to send a 5th award to Emily Hampshire aka Stevie. Also, Ronnie aka Karen Robinson's reactions to every single category win was TREMENDOUS.
 
I've only started watching this randomly about two months ago and I'm falling in love with it. It starts off as a bit of an Arrested Development knock-off but as pointed out the characters actually GROW in very subtle but noticeable ways and are not cartoony arseholes all the time like in AD.

It's all about Catherine O'Hara for me, but OBVS Daniel (and Stevie) and Alexis are incredible too. The actress playing Alexis has probably the hardest role of them all because she has to make the on paper most selfish, most frivolous and superficial character have some warmth and some ground in reality. She makes that old adage of intelligent actors needed to play stupid roles absolutely true.
 
It was a fabulous show, and so good to see it go out on such a high
 
I’m late to the party but I started watching this like 6 days ago and I’m already at the end of season 3.

MOIRA really might be the greatest tv character that has ever lived.

“Look at the STATE of this place. It’s like we’re in a mumbia-an slum”

“Of course I know your middle name Alexis. I BLESSED YOU WITH IT”

“Your annual fundraiser for the children with...troubled mouths”

“is that really what we want from our town? Homeless toddlers? Pulling on your pant leg?”

I am obsessed
 
I can't bring myself to watch the finale as it will all be over. I think I'll re-watch the final series before finally cutting the chord.
 
Victoria Coren Mitchell has written an article about it in The Telegraph today. If someone who is behind their paywall could post it, that would be lovely thanks.

I think I re-watched it twice since the show ended and I can promise you it loses NONE of its charm in the process. On the contrary, you end up picking up on wonderful, hilarious little nuances you missed out on when you watched it the first time and were too busy picking yourself back up from the floor after laughing way too hard at everything Moira gets up too.

Particularly Alexis needs and deserves a second viewing. Much like @Peekaboo said, it's not an easy role to pull off but she does it so well. Her reaction when she sees Moira on stage of grad night is probably one of my favourite moments of the series now and she pulls of that joy and surprise in such a genuine manner - but it gets a little lost first time round.

I'm three watches in and it does keep revealing new stuff. A warm funny nuanced script and an astonishing subtle cast make for one of the best comedies in the last decade.

It's the first comedy series that has really really gripped me since 30 Rock and Parks and Rec finished. Will probably end up in that top tier of shows I'll always be happy to watch when I need a quick fix of laughter and hilarity - and those are rare.
 
Its up there with Parks and Rec and Ab Fab in terms of my all time faves that I've rewatched. Thick of It as well probably.
 
Off the top of my head it's up there with Ab Fab, Nighty Night and Frasier as my favourite comedies ever.
 
I have started using POSITIVELY BEDEVILED WITH MEETINGS ET CETERA in EVERYDAY PARLANCE because frankly it's one of the best comedy lines ever written.
 
The slurred noise Moira makes at the end of the wine tasting is fucking everything.
 
I just started the final season today, after re-watching the first 5 seasons in preparation. I'm trying to go slow, because I just don't want it to end, but I'm already 5 episodes in. It is my favorite comedy (maybe tied with Fleabag) this decade.

For the same reason, I still haven't watched the final episode of Friends... (which is very :goodgrief: I know)
 
It takes a while, for a sitcom it's quite slow burn for the first season or so but it definitely takes off. For me seasons 2-3 is its peak.
 
I know a few people who have started it and then given up. But then gone back to it after all the hype it's gotten recently, and been glad that they have.

I personally didn't find the first season a struggle, but a lot of people do seem to.
 
Its funny because the first season was a little bit of a struggle the first time, but on rewatch, it is almost as funny as the rest of it.
 
It definitely didn't hit me immediately, but I am very glad I stuck with it because it is one of my favourite comedies now, and I think I will give it a rewatch over Christmas.
 
It is the perfect rewatch show. You notice new jokes/pronunciations/facial expressions each time so its just as funny each time

Absolutely, series 1 is much funnier after watching the whole thing. Its a wonderfully clever and well planned show.

I do wonder how much they actually planned ahead, or if it just kind of fell into place. From the beginning at least.

His first post-SC project was an attempt to relaunch Fran Drescher from The Nanny's career.

It was cancelled after one season. :D

I could see where this is from, especially the first half of the season. I was thinking “oh great it’s another selfish/clueless people being frustrated thing”

luckily I’m gay so I’m clinging on to Moira. I’m interested in the David / front desk clerk storyline.

Not interested in the spoilt girl at all so far. And the father is alright but I hate haaate Ronald so that’s sort of dragging it down

You will grow to love Alexis.
 
Yeah the most interesting arc of season 1 for me was trying to decipher David and Stevie's relationship and whether David was supposed to be a FLAMING HOMO.

I may have said this in the previous page but the show does start as a bit of an Arrested Development knock-off but the main difference for me is that even when they're put in situations where the OBVIOUS JOKE would be to make them oblivious to a situation that is 'beneath' them and act all self-entitled, the characters are fundamentally decent and react like human beings.

There's a scene in the first series I think where Moira goes to the hairdresser and she ends up getting the same haircut as Jocelyn because that's all they can do in Schitt's Creek :D And she is completely distraught by it and Jocelyn calls her out by telling her to SUCK IT UP LADY YOU LIVE HERE NOW. I was pleasantly surprised because the obvious joke would have been to have Moira snap back with some ZINGER about how she is much better than her, but her answer was to say "Jocelyn, this haircut works for you. You know who you are, and you embrace it. I don't know who I am" which is actually incredibly SELF-AWARE and IN CHARACTER with how Moira uses her fashion.
 
I binge watched the first three seasons within days but I'm finding Season 4 to be such a drag, I'm currently on Episode 7, I'm finding that they focus too much on the David/Patrick relationship (which is fine) and I just ultimately don't like Patrick as a character :( I know he's needed there since he balances out David and they can show another side to his character who's generally almost cartoon-like. I hope it picks up from this episode as well as the remaining seasons.
 
I don't dislike Patrick but he is the weakest link of the main cast. Roland is a bit one-note but he gets some really good lines and Chris Elliot plays off Eugene Levy very well. Patrick is just a bit DULL and he sort of COCKBLOCKS Stevie and David's relationship which is beautiful in the first few seasons (the show does acknowledge this in a couple of later episodes to their credit).
