Moopy notwithstanding.

I DESPISE PayPal. their customer service is shit and utterly impossible to access, they constantly try and make it impossible for you to LOG IN, they have often frozen my money when moving it between accounts, and did I mention that their customer service is TOILET QUALITY? :evil:

In 2021 I will shut my accounts.
 
I also want to remove my Facebook account but I was keeping it for the EVENTS. unfortunately it really is the best/only way to keep track of all events happening like festivals, food markets, parties and so on :(

On Facebook, I have got rid of my main account, but it annoys me that I still have to have the messaging side open to talk to everyone. And they own WhatsApp so there isn't even an alternative that I'd actually be able to convince other people to move to anyway. I really begrudge them for their chat domination.
 
I only keep Facebook because my sister insists on communicating with me through it, otherwise it would be straight down the digital pan.
Plus, I used to have fun trolling the Coil group. That time time I announced that a special edition of their latest archive release was coming packaged inside a live swan was a triumph.
 
What *are* the alternatives to Paypal? I kinda hate them but feel very tied into them on ebay, Bandcamp etc
 
My tech-savvy friends all use Monzo and/or another one whose name escapes me just now
 
It’s not an online account but I’ve been trying to cance (and get a refund for) my tv licence for months

the fuckers don’t make it easy, and who has a TV when they live round the bins?
 
I don’t mind PayPal though, it saves me having to put my details in everywhere

I'm about to cancel mine - I;m just going to block the Direct Debit and wait for them to react.

I chose to have no TV for some years so didn’t need a licence and they refused to believe that anyone sane wouldn’t have a TV :side-eye:

Oh the CONSTANT PHONE CALLS. In fact they might even have turned up at one point

100% Facebook. I absolutely loathe it. People don’t talk anymore they just share shit images and videos from shit viral social pages. I mean it’s 2020, why is “like and share if” still a thing? You all need to have a word with your parents (I have and it hasn’t made a bit of difference)

the growing influence of conspiracies and anti-everything behaviour is just depressing.

but I keep it to stay in touch with family.

at this point I post about twice a month if that, usually just the odd rant about the Tories and Brexit that nobody cares about anyway

People do seem to forget you exist when you delete Facebook unless that’s just me and they never liked me to begin with :)

I lost just one friend who was once quite close. When she had a couple of gatherings and couldn't be bothered to invite anyone who wasn't on Facebook I knew we'd drifted apart

Google and iTunes. My old email was hacked by someone in Vietnam and I can't get it back, so my google and iTunes accounts are completely tied and I can't change it. I'd hate to lose my youtube channel because of this - my 1500 subscribers still waiting on my first publically posted upload in 5 years depend on it.
 
I don't actually mind Facebook. I use it for certain groups like one related to my car, and friends/family seem to like to know when you're celebrating people's birthdays and stuff. I also need it for Oculus VR. Not arsed what they know about me, everyone knows I'm a raging brony/furry and general weirdo already and whilst I'm not 100% "out" my sexuality is probably A BIT OBVIOUS at this point and these matters are not of much note these days anyway.

Still seemingly have a Gaia Online account from ages ago with a bunch of cringe that I wish was gone, but oh well.
 
When I was maybe 13 I asked my grandfather to sign up for some music website (maybe Pandora?) that was $10 a month. I then completely forgot about it. When I was 17, he asked me if I still used it, and I lied and said yes but he could cancel it... I still feel a little guilty about it
 
Facebook I keep trying to wean off but I like my community group for where I live which really turned up the heat a few weeks a go when someone didn’t like someone else’s parking :o

There’s a few other groups I’m in too which is actually all it is for me now. I think the best way would just be to create a new profile, follow what I want to follow group wise and leave it at that.
 
That's a thought... yeah we literally have a local "you park/drive like shit" Facebook group. But there was also a local group created during Lockdown 1.0 which was pretty wholesome, all about helping with shopping, medical supplies and generally looking out for vulnerable neighbours. Obviously something like this would've managed without Facebook or indeed the Internet just as it has done since the year dot, or the local rag could've set something up (but I'm not sure that'd be any better, as they're more corrupt than FB and have actual malware on their site) but it was streamlined and obviously a lot easier to get more people involved. You could have some alternative to FB and somehow manage to make it popular but I think all that'd happen is commercial interests would smell money, find a way to slide in on it and you'd have another FB.

We didn't get Pandora in the UK but it's a bit like Spotify, isn't it? Anyway yes you are a terrible person, your poor granddad :(
