I went to a VEGAN FAYRE a few years ago and not only was I suffocated by the air of smug and bruised on the legs by swinging I’M CRUELTY FREE tote bags but that “vegan mayonnaise” blates tasted like chick peas

I do applaud veganism if it’s for the right reasons but not I’M BETTER THAN YOU
 
(I don't know which of these are available in the UK), but Tofurkey sausages, Morningstar beef crumbles, and Quorn "chicken" patties are all great
 
I think it's apparent in most supermarkets that the amount of floor space given to meat is decreasing significantly.

Like Indie, I'm not veggie, but for things like burgers and mince, I genuinely like the substitutes. I don't feel at all like I'm missing out in any way.
 
I like my meat and dairy but the vegetarian/vegan cookbooks I own are the best of the bunch, no doubt about it

I DO STAR, BUT I CAN EXPLAIN THAT.

IT’S BECAUSE THE PRODUCT WAS PRODUCED IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE MILK IS USED ALTHOUGH NOT AS AN INGREDIENT FOR THE PRODUCT. SO THOSE WITH SEVERE ALLERGIES TO MILK NEED TO BE AWARE IN CASE OF THE OUTSIDE CHANCE OF CROSS CONTAMINATION.

SO IT’S MORE TO COVER THEIR BACKS IN CASE A CONSUMER SHOULD SUFFER A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION RATHER THAN IT BEING NOT SUITABLE FOR VEGANS.
 
The quality and availability of vegan food is wildly improved even in the last 2 years. Once the supermarkets cottoned on that it was worth the shelf-space, they started running with it and now it's as good as mainstream. The only issue they have in the Tesco nearest my work is that they keep underestimating demand. The new Wicked stuff for Xmas buggered off in a day.

There's definitely a huge demand among non vegans who want to try it. I can understand ACTUAL vegans being quite pissed off at not being able to get their hands on it.

It depends on your reasoning. I don’t eat meat because I can’t bear the thought of an animal dying in fear for me to eat. It’s not because I don’t like meat- I fucking love(d) meat. Meat substitutes give me a depth to meals sometimes and also make me feel like I’m not missing out sometimes.

I don’t always have them- I have plenty of meals with veg only- but it isn’t as simple as your “why would you give up meat to eat substitutes?” comment there.
 
I have a problem with vegans- the rise in veganism has meant vegetarian food eating out is hard to come by- it’s all vegan. We ordered burgers via Deliveroo this evening and the menu had 8 vegan choices- brilliant, as normally you get one- but there was no choice for normal cheese. So I had to ring up and ask and then they forgot. So my dinner was ruined by shit vegan cheese which I hate. It drives me insane.
 
Having said all of this, I think I’m going to do Veganuary this year. I eat lots of vegan meals anyway, but want to give it a proper go for a little while.
 
Oh I did get some funny looks when Subway introduced their vegan meatballs and I insisted they use real cheese :D

That's less a problem with veganism than it is with (a) businesses who still perceive the market as niche and therefore aim for one "catch-all" rather than having an actual range (b) vegan cheese, all of which is fucking awful.
 
I don't think businesses necessarily view it as niche, not when there are 8 different vegan choices. It’s laziness.

It's still one menu for two purposes. It's a massive step on from 10 years ago when you'd go out somewhere and there'd be one vegetarian choice on a menu and no-one knew the difference but it's still keeping things unnecessarily limited.

I went on a work trip last year, and we had a catered lunch and I couldn't leave where I was. I asked for a vegetarian option and they brought me a salad of just lettuce and tomatoes. For an entire lunch

And they are pretty cheap and very quick and easy to 'cook' for lazy people like me.

I went to a restaurant last year and there was NO MEAT available on any of their set menus. It was all fucking fish, so I had no choice but to take the vegan option.
 
I hate fish now. The smell of it gives me the boak.

It amazes me that I used to eat eggs. Like, a whole boiled egg or a scramble. Can't even look at it now.

I've had more eggs than ever since going vegetarian, which I fear may defeat the purpose a little.
 
I love eggs so much. Egg yolk in particular. I don’t think I could ever part with them but only last I felt a bit “odd” eating one.

Didn't stop me eating and loving two this morning for breakfast, though.
