It never resorted to the sort of gooey sentimentality that Friends seemingly relied on either.

Roz was probably my favourite character too.
 
The recurring characters were fantastic too. Lilith (though of course we had some Bebe Neuwirth main-cast goodness in Cheers) and [the other] Bebe being my favourites.
 
I think I've probably seen each episode of Frasier at least 5 or 6 times. I've watched it when it was originally broadcast, on DVD, once through entirely thanks to channel 4 morning repeats, and then I'll still dip in and out if I've got the day off or whatever over the last few years.

Haven't channel 4 been showing continuously in that weekday morning slot for about a decade now?
 
Maybe it's because I was introduced to Cheers and it years before but I always preferred the far funnier dysfunctional friends dynamic of Seinfeld to the frankly poor imitation pandering-to-attractive-young-things vibe of Friends.

It's just such a cozy watch. Whenever I want to feel warm inside, I'll make sure to catch it.
 
Actually I mean continually, not continuously, don't I?

I got into Frasier years after Friends but it has stood up so much better. I think it helps that unlike Friends, it was never really of a particular time. The show and its leads were never cool so it has never aged.
 
My least favourite Friends trope was when there was some misunderstanding or confrontation between the characters that build throughout the episode and culminated in an almighty shouting match, only for the plot to never actually be resolved because someone would silence the room by announcing they were pregnant and or had been fired or something. Cue all the Friends remembering what’s really important and forgetting all about any tension.

Must have happened at least once a season.

isn’t that just sitcoms though?
 
They really ruined Joey in the last few seasons, he went from being loveable goof to downright stupid. Case in point, the one where Pheobe tries to teach him French, and the one where Estelle died.

So true. In the earlier seasons, he is stupid sometimes, but is still a component person. He goes from probably being my second favorite character at the beginning to being only a little bit less annoying than Ross (the worst always).
 
Well it could have been Caroline In The City instead. Hard to believe that started off beating Friends in the ratings.

I also wonder how Cybil holds up now, but truth be told I think I'm due a Daria binge instead.
 
Loved it back then, loved rewatching it up until about ten years ago then grew tired of it.

Frasier had more than its fair share of questionable scenes with Frasier freaking out about someone thinking he's gay or whatever. It was hardly an improvement on Friends in that regard? It was just quite camp at the same time.
 
Frasier was generally the butt of the joke in those episodes though, to be fair. I wonder if the entire male cast of the show (Kelsey Grammer aside) being gay might have prevented anything dodgier from slipping through...
 
Most the Frasier cast were SCREAMING QUEENS!

Shame Kelsey Grammer turned out to be a TRUMP SUPPORTER.
 
I read an article fairly recently which described Frasier as a gay show starring straight characters, which I think summed it up quite well.
