WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST MEMORY?

I CAN REMEMBER PUSHING MY WOODEN TROLLEY FULL OF BUILDING BRICKS DOWN OUTSIDE EDGE OF OUR HOUSE IN SWANSCOMBE WITH ITS PEBBLEDASHED WALLS. I GUESS I WAS IN THE AGE RANGE OF 18 MONTHS TO 2 YEARS.

My mum's 30th birthday so that would have been just before i turned 4. I remember notbing specific about it just that she had a big red badge on.

I remember screaming in my cot from my bedroom because I could see a shadow slowly coming up the stairs to the landing. I can't have even been three at that point.
For years I never looked at the stairs when I was going into my parents room at night because I saw the shadow a few times and I was terrified of seeing it again.

I can remember being brought home from my nan’s to news that my sister had been born. So just before 3 years old.

Crying as I looked through the gaps on our balcony at my sister playing in the paddling pool below, as I wasn't allowed. I was probably 2 years old.

We briefly lived in Ramsgate in Kent, and I have vivid memories of the layout of the house and drawing on the wallpaper with crayons. I was either two or three when we left.

Going to my grandma's house, for my 4th birthday party and getting upset and insisting that it wasn't my birthday and wanting to go home.

We moved cities when I was about 21 months old, and I will always remember sitting on my mothers lap and my brother and I eating a certain type of sweet we have over here (probably to shut me up).

Quite odd, but reasonable specific as well.

Sitting in bed between my grandpa and grandma, my mom walking in the room telling me I shouldn't be in bed with my shoes on and grandpa saying 'Oh leave him!'

My grandma died when I was three (that day is another very early memory), so that must have been just before that.

NO, IT’S DEFINITELY TRUE. I’D NEVER MENTIONED IT TO MY MOTHER BEFORE UNTIL EARLIER THIS YEAR AND SHE CONFIRMED THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I USED TO DO.

IT’S NOT AS IF WE’VE SPENT THE INTERVENING 40 YEARS REMINISCING ABOUT MY BUILDING BRICK TROLLEY AND OUR PEBBLEDASH WALLS.
Also my Grandad died shortly after my 3rd birthday and I have lots of vivid memories of him. We don’t have many photos to have created false ones.

Wondering off from the kid's swimming pool on holiday and going onto a (admittedly small) slide into the main pool. For some reason I sank and remember clearly all the legs. I wasn't scared, it was quite serene, although I was picked up by a lifeguard pretty soon. I was 2 and a half.

Been pretty terrified of being underwater ever since, though.

I don’t remember the flat I lived in with my mum when I was 2 but I remember the flat we were in when I was 3-4 vividly. (My parents split up when I was born and got back together when I was 4 then we moved to a house where I grew up)

But I think there are memories of before the flat. Going to Llandudno beach is a very vague memory, I would have been 2. Sitting on my grandads knee reading Mr Men books - could have been even younger.

My mum telling me that my gran was crying because my grandad had gone up to heaven. It's particularly vivid because I thought that somebody had come to the house and taken him in a hot-air balloon and I felt very angry about it and confused. It was a month before my fourth birthday.

A SEAGULL SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE AT LLANDUDNO

WHO WOULDN’T? I’M TEMPTED MYSELF

:D with a touch of :(

This sounds like most of my nights as an ADULT (minus parents, I just mean I usually wake up thinking there is SOMETHING IN THE ROOM OR ON THE LANDING. This is particularly apparent at about 2-3am and has been especially horrific in the last week. Expect to see the true life adaptation make a Buttertart horror countdown soon)

As for earliest memories, it's either a generic going to the shops in a pushchair and wanting to get out, putting toast or bread in the video player, or my mum screaming at me like I was a gigantic cunt for spilling tomato soup and I honestly thought she might kill me. When she did that we lived in this isolated place where the kitchen floor was giant black and white tiles and, whether it was first memory or 5th, makes it my worst early memory. I will add my mum is lovely mostly, but I will never forget it

I can remember being in a buggy with the rain cover on when I was about 3, being transfixed by the sound of the rain.

I don't think I have an earliest memory. I remember the first party I went to and cried, because my mum left me. I also remember playgroup which was the tits. We drank milk and drove about in cars.

See that's where it gets VERY WEIRD as I remember just after being born being placed on a sort of bed of fluff for a photo (which is AROUND in the house) and understanding being told to sit still and the general concept of having my photo taken.

HOW SOON AFTER YOU WERE BORN?

Doing ket off a cracked CD case the back of a van driving up the M1 from Sheffield to Leeds on a Sunday lunchtime when I was 18

First memories are from when I was about three and both are playgroup related - one is colouring in a letter and picture to go next to my coathook ... mine was a LADDER because both that and my name begin with L. Another is a Gordon the Gopher puppet show from our big dyke playgroup leader.

I actually find the subject of memories quite distressing. I feel like my memories are absolutely shot to shit. In many ways, my teen years between 14 and 17 all just blend into one another and I find it very hard to distinguish specific memories from them or remember the order of events. But that was a time period where my mum was seriously ill most of the time i’ve probably blocked a lot of it out.

You poor thing having to live in Swanscombe. :(

Mine would be Maidstone eye hospital when I was 3 for squint surgery. They didn't have a bed so I had to sleep in a rickety metal cot that wouldn't have looked out of place in a Soviet hospital. My mum told me she was in the mummy's room down the corridor but she pissed off home instead and left me there.
I vividly remember sitting on a rocking horse in the day room watching He-Man with my eye patch on.
