WATCH THIS SPACE AFTER THE SHURA SYNC

it's been many years since I listened to this album, but the song titles are triggering all kinds of memories for me now. very excited for this!

I've never listened to this, but I love her voice and mid 2000s dance music, so I don't expect to be dissapointed
it's mid 00s BY WAY OF THE 80s. quite retro rather than trying very hard to be TRENDY iirc, which is probably just as well.

I would have done this but am listening to Tanita Tikaram’s Twitter Tim’s Listening Party as I do the dishes.

Always remembered "High & Mighty" to be a bit of a weak point, but it does work as a bit of a SUBDUED introduction of more balls to the wall dance bops.

I do love the random banjo (?) that kicks in midway through

High and Mighty is such a WEIRD opener. I wouldn't exactly say it SETS THE TONE. it's quite intriguing though, even without any payoff.

"Into the Night Life" remains an utter JOY. I remember only hearing the verses in an initial snippet and thought it was beyond shit, but then the CHORUS elevates it to a 13/10 for a net average of 10/10.

I do get the feeling she HATES IT though

It wasn't as upbeat as I was expecting but I did like it as an opener.

10 Into The Nightlife

This one I already know and love. I love the buzzing baseline and the chorus just explodes. The breakdown towards the end is great too

gotta love the way Into the Nightlife shimmies out of that grimy scratchy verse into the HUGE EXPLOSIVE CHORUS which is pure crack and should come with a health warning. really glorious. in another time or dimension this woud've been a huge smash.

Not listening but Into the Nightlife really is a case of an older diva chasing the pink pound and getting it VERY RIGHT!

I know she was disappointed this album didn’t do great and was a little disappointed with the fans who’d been pushing her to make a dance record so she did and it was a relative flop.

and that was somehow their fault? :D it was Cyndi Lauper in 2008 FFS!

UM this was NUMBER 1 on the Billboard Hot dance club play chart, number 5 on the dance airplay chart (?), and number 18 on the definitely real Billboard Global Dance Chart

"Rocking Chair" is a bit FUN

Rock me here
Rock me there
Rock me in my
ROCKING CHAIR

And then that weird bridge :D

Then the random CHA CHA

It's her "Nu-Di-ty"?

and every dress is SAVOIR FAIRE :disco:

no idea what this song is about or what it's trying to be :D just go with it I suppose

I LONGED for an "Echo" single release back in the day. AS IF it would have made a difference, mind you

I don't GET Rocking Chair but I definitely am already feeling the first 10 seconds of Echo (which is more what I expected)

The "Echo" chorus is truly SHIMMERY ELECTRO DISCO PROZAC

I went to see her about 2 years after this (she performed a whole song stood a foot in front of me! :disco:) and she performed none of it :(

Echo is quite Robyn (the self-titled album). easy to imagine her on the chorus. quite into the bleep bloop verses but I'm not sure the chorus lives up to them.

06 Rocking Chair - Sorry to give this a lower score and ruin the consistency
10 Echo - How was this not already in my life??

That last chorus

All of my days (ALL OF MY DAYS!!!)
All of my nights (ALL OF MY NIGHTS!!!)
Standing next to you..... you
I will find yoooooou

Label: We got Max Martin on the record - we have no more budget left
Cyndi: *writes/records "Lyfe"*

That said, I do like "Lyfe" a lot more now than I did then. It just feels like it should be on a different album.

Lyfe sounds like a holdover from what this album perhaps was before somebody (the fans!) decided she should go homo. It's weird but I quite like it. musically it's almost a bit KM94 meets Impossible Princess (with the middle 8 unfortunately serving Let's Get To It).
