Delirious Thursday

Listening to podcasts have totally changed my relentless journey into work i must say!

Actually I meant to ask, I'm still on season 4, if I listen to the Xmas specials I think I would be out off sync?

The Xmas specials usually exist in the their own weird timeline but this years has quite a few spoilers in it so I’d avoid until you’ve completed the show.

In as much as there is a plot, yeah, there would be spoilers. But I don't know how the crossover episode will work. I presume it will be a way to introduce both podcasts to each other's audience, so I can't see it being too spoilerish.

It’s either podcasts or repeats of Four in a bed to get me to sleep . I just like judging the breakfasts

So is the Joan podcast another of Rocky's writings?
It's not, it's Julia Davis (of Nighty Night fame) and her frequent collaborator Vicki Pepperdine as two frankly AWFUL agony aunts who give advice to fictional listeners' questions :D It's very very good, though frequently a bit MUCH in a similar way to Belinda's exploits.

I tried that but I keep paying attention to the damn podcasts!

I remember when Radio 3 did an all night broadcast of Max Richter's 8-hour "Sleep", which is designed to be slept through. I thought - good idea. Ended up having a really broken non-sleep with occasional cat-naps because I found the music too interesting!! :D

See I can’t use anything too interesting/funny

so I always use In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg. 90% of the time I’m asleep before the first 10-minute sleep timer!

That said, THIS is LOVE.... with ME .... PHOEbe JUdge, that’s gone off the boil a bit, might be good for sleep

Happy Hannukah everyone! We have bought a Hannukiah (looks like the one below) to light for the first time since not living with my parents. So we're doing a bit of Christmas and a bit of Hannukah this year.

You light a candle in the middle every night for eight nights, which you use to light one candle on the first night, two on the second, etc.

Me too! I feel similar vibes to you really - I get up at 6am and have a commute of 90 minutes each way, on my feet all day with children and then when I get home I’m so tired that even showering feels like i have to mentally work myself up to do. I could not imagine throwing two children to look after into that mix though - although I do have a fiancé who is very high maintenance and is very creative in how he gets attention.

That sounds a bit like a maths puzzle. Sorry, I'm out.

Y'know, I'm actually embarrassed that I never knew how the candle-lighting worked before now.

Just to throw an extra spanner in the works, you light the candles from right to left. So on the first night, you have one candle in the middle and one on the right.

Beginning to think @lolly is right

Moopy Maths club - ASSEMBLE!

Thanks @Kate!

@Iguana Happy Channukah!! What you call a Hannukiah, I've always called a menorah, but I Googled it and I was WRONG. Everything else is right (not that I practice Judaism very strictly)

Interesting! We also called it a Menorah growing up but when I look it up now, that only appears to have 7 candle holders and not 9. So I'm a bit confused about this - I will go consult the scriptures!

Can you read Hebrew? Apparently Menorah is incorrect (as it is something with 7 candles), but most people including most Jews get it wrong. I love the word Hannukiah anyway, so I'm going to start using it

No I can't - well I know what the letters are but I can't understand it.

This has been most educational!

And how do you decide which is left and which is right? Is this why you usually see them in windows and not in the middle of a room?

I've got a:emoji_exclamation:saying ERROR against the last thing I tried to send.
That and I keep getting notified about the same message from Mr Ag which then isn't in the chat window!

Good question!! It's on the right as you look at it from the front. I guess if you're thinking about it from the Hannukiah's perspective, you light it from its left. But it's inanimate so that's a bit of a fruitless thing to do.

This deep discussion is what Hannukah is all about! And presents

Excuse me? Everyone knows Hannukah is about being slightly jealous that you don't celebrate Christmas (and presents)

Listening in (without choice) on a video call the manager is on with some sales guy trying to sell a software system

I'm trying to count the number of times the guy says "In Terms Of"... it's been 5 minutes and if it was a drinking game I'd be under the table by now...

Quite bizarrely after that post I’ve just seen Alice Levine in the restaurant I’m having lunch in.

Plus a surprise package of Scottish goodies from a friend :disco: MINCE & MEALIE PIE straight in the oven for lunch.

In terms of it being Thursday, which I shall call Friday Eve in terms of it being the day before Friday, this is my last day of the year in the office. In terms of tomorrow I'm working from home for 3 hours and then that's it in terms of work! In terms of getting paid, I'm on furlough for 3 weeks and in terms of the other 20% they're letting us have it if we take it as holiday. So yay! In terms of tomorrow night it's PARTY TIME

In terms of the guy who keeps saying "in terms of" I've lost the count but in terms of the tally it's well into triple digits
