Barbara Windsor DEAD

I'm truly sorry to post this, but it is genuinely some of the most upsetting television I've ever witnessed, and every time I'm reminded it exists I have to post it or it just sort of sits in my brain causing untold mental anguish.

Cilla came out of it much worse. Obviously. That said the flashing hearts on her tits and fanny were kind of iconic.

Babs was very much the Xtina to Lily's Madonna and Cilla's Britney.

Dementia sucks. My gran had it and I'm always grateful that she was content, despite not ever knowing what was going on around her. She was never distressed or anxious - she was comfortable, warm and safe in the carehome where she lived out her last 4 years. I hope Babs was comfortable, warm and safe too.

Poor Babs :( I always respected that she made that brief return to EE to give the character a proper send off, and finding out in hindsight that it was because she was diagnosed with dementia and wanted to do it while she was still able to made it even sadder.

It would obviously be in poor taste to post it just now, but her final scene as Peggy really was wonderfully acted.

Aw this is so sad . If I believed in all that I’d love to think of old Kenneth greeting her up there

I've seen a few more now. I was expecting an absolute FLOOD.

Maybe the rumours, which I can't even recall right now about her being difficult were true. That Patsy Palmer review isn't exactly GLOWING.

Although there's no evidence online to suggest as much. With Cilla there was a fucking WAREHOUSE of SHIT about her.

I do remember stuff about the EastEnders cast very much being divided into two CAMPS when both Babs and Wendy Richard were regulars, though from what we knew about Wendy I'd have been more inclined to believe she was the driving force behind that :eyes:

"I would like to say what utterly heart-breaking news I woke up to this morning. They broke the mould when they made Dame Barbara Windsor, there will never be another like that incredible woman, everyone who met her loved her and she will be deeply missed. I would like to send everything I have to her amazing husband Scott, what a beautiful soul he is. My heart goes out to him and I just wish I could give him the biggest cuddle he has ever had. RIP dearest Barbara. You will be missed beyond measure." Letitia Dean

Radio 2 playing her entire discography today because apparently she was a singer as well. Never heard her sing a note before today!

They’ve just played her rendition of “What The World Needs Now is Love”

One of her wiki article pictures is her looking particularly evil at Pauline's funeral :D What a choice!

Can't believe you've gone through life without seeing that Gypsy perf with Cilla and Paul O'Grady.

It took a wee while for the Cilla dam to burst. Because everyone knew she was a fud, there was no surprise when it just kept on coming, only the hilarity of who it was coming from, who'd told her to fuck off etc. This is different.

There's also the fact that most of her closest colleagues are already dead; she was the youngest of the Carry On regulars, remember.

She truly was that massively overused adjective of ICONIC.

A massive loss. :(

Sad news indeed.

I must say I was startled at my laptop when Pam St Clement came on the tv to give a tribute. I was in no doubt until today that she had passed away a few years ago.
