What do we think of THIS?

An unstoppable worldwide Australian SMASH, it didn't even seem to NEED much of a record label push to happen, and they didn't even seem to bother trying to properly follow up - the similarities with DANCE MONKEY are quite potent.

It's legitimately one of the biggest songs EVER! Why do you think it was such a hit?

I know this was huge and obviously I know OF it but I honestly couldn’t even HUM it

I like it a lot, but I think it's still a couple of years before I can listen again without the horror that was overplay.

I still love it, though the overplay was definitely a bit much.

Also I really hate regular polls with 11s. Not trying to tell you you can't do them, just speaking my truth.

LOVE IT, but I don't really understand why it was such a big hit. I guess it just resonated with a lot of people

1 million times better than Dance Monkey

Having just watched the video, I don’t even have any recollection of it. It’s no PRAYER IN C

Oh sorry I just added it because I thought it was the DONE THING around here, please feel free to change I really don't care at ALL and resented having to go to the effort of adding the poll on in the first place :D

Did it even get a big push in the UK, or (like Dance Monkey) did it just sort of become an INEVITABLE HAPPENING.

My mind may be ABSOLUTELY SHOT TO PIECES but I can't recall Radio 1 being early adopters.

The standard format is 10-0.

Thank you for your cooperation. :disco:

I think it just sort of became inevitable when it swept the globe. I may be wrong but I seem to recall it was at least a year or so old when it finally broke in the UK.

I recall they tried to give Kimbra a bit more of a push than HIM after this. She definitely released a few singles that Pitchfork liked, though none of it stuck, evidently.

I always thought she looked and sounded strikingly like Katy Perry.

I remember Kimbra releasing this song '90s Music' which didn't really sound much like 90s music.

He doesn't even seem to have released an album since the one with this on it. :D

If he's content to just roll about on his mountain of money then FAIR PLAY I guess.

The first time I heard this was a friend played it right after one of my first mushroom trips. I was both confused and amazed at the same time. Obviously like it for nostalgic reasons.

Has this mystery artist ever been revealed ?

A ‘high profile’ female vocalist actually cancelled at the last minute and Kimbra lucked out as the replacement.
“There was a vocalist who was quite high profile in Australia who was all set to do it and then cancelled the night before we were going to do the vocal session.”
“In fact, we met at a festival months later and she was just like, ‘Maybe that was a mistake,’ ” he adds with a laugh. Gotye, ever the gentlemen, is so far refusing to name names to save the embarrassment of the mystery woman."

I worked with a lot of Australians around the time this came out and they would be raving about Kimbra all the time as she was already some sort of INDIE POP DARLING with a fairly successful career over there before this hit.

I did listen to a couple of her earlier hits hoping for a Roisin Murphy / Goldfrapp type of artist and I DID NOT FIND SUCH THING.

Yeah she's had a few top 5 albums down under so has a bit of a following in the indie-pop community. Hasn't really ever had much of a mainstream hit though outside of this.
